i-Ready

A message from the Principal
We are excited to share that we will be administering the i-Ready Diagnostic Assessment for Reading to all students in grades 1 - 5 in the next few weeks. The results of this assessment will NOT impact your child's grade. Instead, the results will guide your child's teacher in supporting them with lessons that are specific to your child's individual needs. All TVUSD elementary schools will be administering this assessment.
We plan to first assess our 5th graders beginning the week of September 14th and then work our way through the grades, one class at a time. The assessment will take place during the school day. Your child won't miss any work or instruction due to the test. Our goal is to complete all assessments for students in grades 1-5 by Friday, October 2nd.
We have always partnered closely with the families in our community to support student learning, and this year, that partnership is even more essential. Because we are asking students to take the Diagnostic at home, we’ll need family support to ensure they can log in, stay focused, and take the test with fidelity.
Please read below for more information about i-Ready and how parents can help their children be ready to do their best on the Diagnostic Assessment.
Warmly,
Kim Parente
Principal
Brief Video about i-Ready
What is 'i-Ready' ?
i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.
i-Ready Personalized Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs, so your student can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your student engaged as they learn.
i-Ready will be given at home
Your child's class will be assigned a time to take the i-Ready Diagnostic. It is very important that your child complete the test independently...without help from anyone else. We need to see what skills your child has mastered and which skills they need more practice with.
Would you help your child with an eye-exam? Unlikely. Why? Because the results of the eye-exam help the optometrist determine if your child needs glasses. In the same way...the results of the i-Ready diagnostic help your child's teacher determine your child's learning needs.
The video below explains further:
How to help
- Ensure that your child gets plenty of sleep the night before the Diagnostic.
- Help prepare/plan for your child to eat a healthy breakfast prior to the assessment.
- Provide a quiet place for them to take the assessment.
- Have paper and pencil available in case your child would like to take notes, write something down during the assessment.
- Encourage your child to do their best. Remind them that the test is NOT for a grade.
- Be sure that your child is logged in on time on the day that their class is taking the i-Ready Diagnostic.
