Week of January 20

A Message from Dr. Collins

Greetings Pelican Parents,

Thank you all for supporting our students during our Awards Assemblies! They are so deserving for the effort it took to achieve those goals. Last week, students had a Goal Setting Conference with their teachers. This is to help them set a goal for the upcoming MAP assessment and remind them to always do their best.

Please remember that there is no school on tomorrow as we celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States.

Savannah-Chatham County Public School System offers 25 Choice Programs throughout the district to provide our students with a diverse portfolio of educational options. We invite you to explore the website to find the Choice Program best suited to your child’s interest and ability.

For information about the programs offered and the application/lottery process please review the 2020 Choice Program Guide. The guide will provide you with information on eligibility criteria, the lottery process, frequently asked questions, and descriptions of each choice program. Contact information for each school can be found under the Site List.

Lottery applications for SCCPSS Pre-K Lottery funded sites will be available beginning February 18, 2020 through February 28, 2020. Online applications and more information can be found at http://pk.sccpss.com .

To qualify for the lottery process, parents must present the child's birth certificate and proof of address to one of the three Pre-K school sites or upload the two documents when completing the application. All application documentation must be submitted by March 12, 2020. An independent computerized lottery process will take place on April 8, 2020 and parents will be notified of their child's placement or waitlist status by email.

Funding from the Georgia Lottery provides a limited number of Pre-Kindergarten classes. The program provides services to children who are four years old on or before September 1, 2020 and residing in Chatham County

PowerSchool: Parent Access

Parents or legal guardians of students enrolled in grades 1st-12th in any SCCPSS school can view their child's academic progress through PowerSchool, the District's student information system. PowerSchool is used to student attendance, grades, transcripts, report cards and more.

Come in and visit with Ms. Young, our Information Specialist, with your photo identification. You will receive a letter containing an access ID and password. It is accessible via mobile app or website.

NWEA MAP Assessment

Do you know your child's RIT score? Students in grades Kindergarten through second will take the MAP test 3 times this year. The first administration of the test has already been given. MAP is an adaptive assessment that moves with the progress of the student. As test questions are answered correctly, the next question will be more challenging. If the answer is incorrect, it will be followed by an easier question. Please be sure to conference with your child's teacher about his/her progress.
