JTMS Counseling Newsletter
February 16, 2021
This week, February 14-20, is Random Acts of Kindness Week, with Wednesday, February 17th, being Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Kindness and caring towards others. We have been talking about that a lot lately.
Why? What is kindness? Why is it so important?
Simply, kindness is doing something without expecting anything in return. It is valued in most religions and cultures throughout the world. And it is easy to do.
Aside from the obvious effect of making others feel better, being kind can also help the person doing the kind act. Research has shown that kind people have increased happiness, healthier hearts, age more slowly and have better relationships.
You can express kindness in different ways:
Kindness to self - perhaps forgiving yourself for something you did that you wish you hadn’t or exercising to keep your body healthy
Kindness to others - maybe helping to shovel snow for your neighbor or volunteering to babysit
Kindness to the world - helping our environment by planting a tree or cleaning up trash on the beach
What acts of kindness will you perform this week?
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
…Desmond Tutu
