Monte the Tiger's Weekly Update
News from Buena Vista Montessori ~ Friday, January 27th
Happy Friday!
Buena Vista celebrated the Chinese New Year this week. The dragon led the parade through the building, followed by the lower elementary and primary students. Ask your students what they learned? One practice our students enjoyed in some classes was cleaning out the old and bringing in the new. This practice allowed students to focus on the fresh start a new year brings.
New clubs are underway, and the basketball team will start games with other schools next week. Go Tigers! The students appear to be fully enjoying the opportunities.
The 4th grade field trip to the library was a huge success, especially the concept of microfilm as you can see in the slideshow pictures below!
Make sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming events listed below each week. There are several field trips and meetings to keep on your radar. For example, we have another School Accountability Committee meeting next Wednesday. Adults from our families are welcome to join us as we try the online forum for this meeting. See below for details.
I hope you enjoy your weekend, see you next week!

Parents, Guardians, and Families!
Are you looking for a way to spend time at BV and help children in a meaningful way? Have we got the job for you! We are looking for two adult volunteers per day to support the children during the lunch and recess time for Lower and Upper El. Please follow the link below to read more about the opportunity and to sign up!
Empty Bowls Charity Event
Buena Vista is bringing back the Empty Bowls Charity Event to sponsor three West-Side organizations which specialize in supporting the food effort for our community. The Charity Event will be an evening of a light meal (soup, bread, and water) and presentations by our Upper El children of the West-Side charities. Please plan to attend the event on Friday, February 24th at 6:00pm.
In the mean-time, we need your help! In order to make this a successful event, and to raise as much money as possible for hunger relief, we ask our BV community to provide the ingredients for the soup and other items for the dinner! Please follow the link below to sign up to bring an ingredient (or five) or a crockpot and ladle! Please bring the ingredients and supplies no earlier than the morning of Thursday, February 23rd. We have only a few refrigerators in the building and won't be able to keep everything fresh for the entire week.

Welcome our New Counselor!!
Hello Buena Vista families!
My name is Stephanie Hamilton, and I am the school counselor. I am a mother of three boys that have been at Buena Vista for almost two years. I was born and raised in Orange County California and have lived in Colorado for 12 years. I enjoy hiking, silly dance parties with my boys, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. I love the unique culture at Buena Vista and the Montessori emphasis on the whole child through the incorporation of social emotional learning and academic learning.
My job is to promote a positive and safe school climate for ALL students.
- I meet with students one-on-one to discuss any challenges they might be experiencing such as peer conflicts, family changes, grief, dysregulation management, and academic concerns.
- I facilitate small group sessions based on needs that arise in the student population regarding topics such as social skills, family changes, self-esteem, etc.
- I assist students in achieving personal, social/emotional, and academic success.
- I conduct skill-based classroom guidance lessons on topics such as respect, caring, inclusiveness, mindfulness etc.
I am also available to meet with parents and discuss the social and emotional wellbeing of your children. Please contact me if there is anything I can do to assist your children this school year! I look forward to working with you and your children throughout the remainder of this exciting school year!

From Ms. Tammy's Kitchen
The next step in becoming less wasteful is to move from disposable plastic-ware to actual silver-ware! I am asking you, our community, to donate gently used forks and spoons to our kitchen for our students to use! Please drop your contribution off in the office at your convenience!
Thank you,
Ms. Tammy

News from Your PTA
Get ready for some more BVE spirit gear options! Members and teachers have requested some new options for logo’ed gear, like a tech hoodie, a car and/or water bottle decal, and reusable shopping bags - and some of the gear in this winter order will be printed with the multi-colored logo! Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for information on how to pre-order!
(If you are still waiting on unfulfilled items from the fall order, please let us know!)
Save the date for BVE’s Spring Dance - Friday, April 21st! The PTA is also looking for members to serve on the planning committee, a group who will work closely with Miss Carrie and Miss LaShele to plan the details of this great event. Let us know if you’re interested.
