CHANGES IN DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
In an effort to increase the safety and security of our students, we are making a slight change to our dismissal process. Previously, our car riders were dismissed from the front porch. Beginning this year, all students will be dismissed from within the building.
CAR RIDER DISMISSAL
The procedure for parents will remain the same. You will stay in the car with your child’s dismissal sign displayed (you will receive this at Meet the Teacher). Instead of parking in the parking lot, Shadowbend, surrounding areas and walking up to the school, we are asking you to remain in the car rider line. Any parent walking up to the school, after bikers and walkers have been dismissed, will be directed to a side hallway where we will locate your child for dismissal. During car rider, we will no longer dismiss children to parents on the front porch. All parents must have a car rider sign with them. Anyone without a car rider sign, will be directed to the front office for an identification check.
BIKER/WALKER DISMISSAL
We will continue to dismiss KG and 1st Grade from the KG courtyard and we are still requiring parents bring their child’s dismissal sign (again, you will receive this at Meet the Teacher). With a signed parent permission slip, we will dismiss 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders on their own.
RAINY DAY DISMISSAL
In the event of rainy day dismissal, we do not send students home as bikers or walkers. Any parent walking up to the school during a rainy day dismissal will be directed to side entrances (KG, 1st, 2nd – KG courtyard) (3rd and 4th – first hallway on the 3rd/4th grade side of the building). All parents KG – 4th, must have your child’s dismissal sign. This can be confusing for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade parents who normally do not have the sign for their biker/walker student. However, on rainy day dismissal, every parent must have their child’s dismissal sign in order for their child to be released. If you do not have your sign, you will be directed to the front office for an identification check. It is recommended to always have your child’s dismissal sign with you.
Please do not come and check out your child early unless it is for a necessary appointment. During rainy day dismissals, the front office is receiving many phone calls, transportation changes, etc. and very busy. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.
