Testing Information
- Student attendance on testing days is vitally important. Please make every effort to be at school and to be on time.
- Please reschedule appointments that are slated for testing days.
- Cell phones are not allowed in testing rooms. Encourage your student to leave his/her phone at home or in his/her locker on testing days.
- Smart Watches are not allowed in testing rooms. As with cell phones, please encourage your student to either leave them at home or in his/her locker.
- We encourage students to bring their lunch on STAAR testing days. Because this is a timed test which must be interrupted for students to eat, having a lunch from home simplifies the process for everyone.
- Student are encouraged to bring an individual snack and water bottle for testing.
- Free breakfast will be available for ALL students Tuesday, April 10th and Wednesday, April 11th as well as Monday, May14th through Thursday, May 17th.
School Safety Information Meetings
Plano ISD is hosting three opportunities for parents to attend an informational meeting about school safety. District safety and security personnel, along with representatives from the Plano Police Department, will share information regarding security measures currently in place, projects scheduled for this summer and proposals that are being discussed for future implementation.
Presenters from the Plano Police Department include:
· Sergeant AD Paul, SRO Program Supervisor and Department Coordinator for the Crisis Intervention Team
· Lieutenant Sandra Rodgers-Tomeo, SRO Program Manager and Former Criminal Investigations Division Supervisor
· Lieutenant Mica Lunt, Plano PD Homeland Security and Training
Attendees will have an opportunity to submit questions and suggestions via a comment card, with part of the evening being reserved for answering questions. The question cards will also be used to create a Frequently Asked Questions that will be shared on the Plano ISD website.
Although the meetings are being hosted by senior high school feeder, you are welcome to select a meeting date and location that is most convenient for you. Each meeting will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the following locations:

Congratulations MMS Speech and Debate
Congratulations to the MMS Speech and Debate team for placing 3rd overall at the 2018 Schimelpfenig Speech Tournament on March 24th! 70+ students from Murphy Middle School attended the tournament and we are so proud of each and every student that competed! MMS Track & Field
Next week’s track meet will be on Tuesday April 3rd at Kimborough stadium. Come out and support our 7th and 8th graders as the compete in their events. Attached is more information about next weeks track meet.

MMS Volunteer Club
Second Thursday of Month from 3:30-4:30 Volunteer club. 1 hour credit for all NJHS and NEHS students that attend. Each month different volunteer projects done at the school in room B120
For Volunteer Club meeting on April 12th,Thursday 3:30-4:30 our last meeting –We are making Necessity Bags women's shelter so please donate brown lunch bags, toothpaste, shampoo, lotion, face wipes, and other toiletries to Mrs. McCutcheon’s room. This is our last meeting of the year, so please come!!!
Science Fair- Congratulations!
Five of our students competed at State Science Fair in San Antonio this past weekend! While they did not win an award, they represented our school well against 1,000 of projects. It is amazing to just be able to compete at this level, and the following students made Murphy proud:

We hope they will continue on with their curiosity and scientific inquiries. We know we’ll see them in the Science Fairs next year too!
Middle School Wrestling
Students in grades 6-8 can sign up to be a part of the Middle School Wrestling program. This program is run by the Plano East coaches. You can find more information about the wrestling program on the attached flyer. You can sign up for wrestling through PSA.

2017-2018 Reflections Program - State Results
The state results for the Reflections program have been posted and the 5 Murphy Middle School Students whose entries advanced to State did GREAT!

Kailey Adams - Visual Arts - Honorable Mention
Kiran Kicinski - Literature - Award of Excellence
Rumaisa Bhatti - Film Production - Overall Award of Excellence - ADVANCING TO NATIONALS!!!
Jenna, Kailey, Kiran, and Rumaisa will be invited to the state awards ceremony to be held this spring.
Rumaisa's film entry has been advanced to national PTA and results will be available June. Ruamisa's entry is one of only 30 total entries that were advanced from the entire state of Texas to National judging!!
