The Leader In Me Annual Survey
Parents, every year we ask that you spend about 5-10 minutes completing this survey to provide feedback to us regarding TLIM program. Thank you!
Classroom Placement for 2021-2022
Dear Lone Star Families,
Periodically I am asked how we place children into homerooms. It is a responsibility that the teachers, administrators, and I take very seriously. We look at children's achievement, ability, and temperament, and then we work to make the best fit with an upcoming teacher. We consider the current teacher's success with a child, and we may take parent input into account regarding certain characteristics.
For example, it is helpful to us if you know that your child needs a structured environment or a teacher with a higher tolerance for movement/noise. Whether your child is shy, outgoing, anxious, or struggling in a subject - that is information that comes into play as we work to make the best grouping possible. We do NOT take or honor specific teacher requests. I have found that specific requests are based upon prior experience with an older sibling or a neighbor's child. Not only is that misguided or even inappropriate, there is always the possibility that the requested teacher may change positions or grade levels before we return in August. You can see how it is more helpful to focus on the child rather than the teacher.
While we do not honor "buddy requests", we do need to know if there are circumstances between your child and another that might result in a conflict should they end up in the same homeroom. I want you to know that many hours and many discussions are put into creating homerooms for the upcoming school year. I feel comfortable in sharing that responsibility with the teachers and administrative team, all of whom know your children well. I am by no means soliciting letters from you. However, if you do need to alert us to certain concerns, please address your emails to me by May 17 at catherine.bartlett@misd.org. We will not be able to entertain input after that time. I want to assure you that this is a responsibility we do not take lightly. We are all here to help every child have a great year… year, after year, after year!
Thank you, Lone Star Families! We LOVE working with your children!!

Dear Lone Star Families,
LSE staff has gotten V.I.P. treatment this week! Red carpets and rides in Air Force One cannot even compare to all the surprises, treats , and Crayola cards we have received for teacher appreciation week! We have warmed hearts, smiles, and misty eyes.
We have had quite a week , with field days , power failure and morning A/C glitch. Next week will be packed with nervous student STAR testing tummies. Please serve your young testers protein, complex carb and healthy fat breakfasts. Eggs and whole wheat avocado toast anyone? The clinic will dispense saltines, Ginger Ale, and TLC as needed. Teachers will pass out loads of encouragement and inspiration. And LSE students will return with their best STAR results! #togetherwemakeLSEgreat

Weekly COVID Positive Case Notification (May 3 - 7)
Dear Lone Star Elementary Parents and Staff,
During the week of May 3-7, we were notified about 2 positive COVID-19 test for individuals in our building. The families of students who have been identified as having close contact with this individual have been notified. The last day these individuals were in our building was April 29.
A close contact is defined as someone within 6 feet of the individual for 15 minutes or longer without protective face coverings or someone who was directly exposed to infectious secretions. We feel it is our responsibility to keep our parents and staff informed as much as possible during this time. Disinfecting of the building continues to happen on a nightly basis. Teachers and staff are diligently cleaning commonly touched surfaces throughout the day according to TEA Guidelines.
We are taking every step possible to stop the spread to others. If you are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, we strongly encourage you to consult with your health care provider and communicate with your campus nurse. We will continue to monitor the situation and report required information to the Montgomery County Health Department.
Sincerely,
Lone Star Elementary Administration
