LMS Eagle Update

September 1, 2016

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

I just can't say enough about what a great start this has been to the school year. It has been a busy but productive year so far with class orientations, professional development, and bullying presentations. Those are the items we make time for outside of math, reading, science, PE, social studies and electives!

As always, we want and expect our students to be successful here at LMS so here are a few tips:

- once you receive a gradebook login, utilize it to keep up with your child's daily work

- encourage tutoring (tutoring schedules are posted outside each teacher's door) for low grades or zero's

- if there are any concerns academically, contact your child's teacher

- ensure that your child is in attendance at school as close to 100% of the time as possible

For your information, here are some key dates you will need to know:

- Monday September 5 is Labor Day Holiday (no school)

- Wednesday, September 7 is the LISD Town Hall (6:30) @ the LES Cafteria

- Wednesday, September 28 is Meet the Teacher night for LMS Students at 6:30, with a brief meeting at 6:00 for 8th grade parents.

As always, if you need anything, please contact us at LMS or stop by!

P.I.E. Corner

What is P.I.E.? Partners in Education, also known as PIE, is a family teacher organization whose goal is to enhance and support the educational experience at LMS by trying to encourage a greater

connection between school and home. We are not a fundraiser based organization, but a "do what we can" for our staff and our students organization. For example, after only 2 weeks into school and we’ve been busy :

●We have decorated the teacher lounge starting the year off with a theme of Keep Calm And….

●We placed some chocolates and school supplies in the lounge to give that back to school boost to the staff.

●We have had volunteers come up and help our Science department tear pages from

● We also are kicking off Copy Helper this week.

● We started treating the staff with birthday goodies for the month of August.

How do things like this help? It helps morale of the staff, which in turn benefits the

students. By helping tear pages and making copies, the teachers have more time for lesson planning and classroom tasks, which in turn helps every student succeed a little bit more. So, consider joining today to take part in this and many more things to come for this school year. In fact, September is membership drive month for P.I.E. This is the time of year we push to encourage parents, grandparents, and community members to become a part of our organization. In an attempt to increase our numbers, this year we have a challenge going among the staff. The teacher with the most families to join will earn $25 in school supplies for their room. So, get a membership

form and have your student help their favorite teacher win. We have 4 levels of membership and hopefully

one will fit your needs. We also have a place on the form where you can select how you would like to

contribute your time and efforts. Need a form? Ask your child’s teacher, check with the MS office or email us at pie.lexington@gmail.com and we will send you one. Don’t forget to join us at Open

House on Wednesday, September 28th @ 6:00 PM. We will be set up on the campus and handing out free slices of pie. This will be your last chance to help your favorite teacher win because challenge ends Friday, September 30th!! As always, you can contact us at pie.lexington@gmail.com with any questions and don’t forget to follow us on our FB page PIE for Lexington Middle School.
