Family Reading Time
Check out the ideas below for a family reading routine!
Schedule a time! Set up a special time to read together every day. Maybe it will be just before bed, first thing in the morning, or after dinner. It doesn't matter what time of the day you read, as long as you read!
Get Comfortable! Once you've decided on your special reading time, it's time to get cozy! Find a comfortable place where you can snuggle up and relax with one another.
Choose Your Books! Keep a basket filled with a variety of books near your cozy place. When it's time to select a book each day, choose from the selection in your basket. Visit your local library as a family to find titles that everyone enjoys.
Take Turns! Have each person who is able to read take a turn.
Act it Out! Use different voices for the characters. Make faces and gestures, or use sound effects.
Talk About It! Ask questions about what you read, such as "How do you think the story will end? Why?" or "What do you think will happen next? What makes you think so?" Don't forget to talk about your favorite part(s) of the story.
Read it Again! Don't forget that books are even better when you read them over and over again! Change voices, make new sound effects, and think of new questions to ask.
