Warrior Project: Organized and Reliable
Thanks again to all students for participating in last week's discussion regarding being respectful and being involved. Here are the ideas that surfaced in last week's fishbowl gathering with Mr. Smith and Mrs. Naugle:
Respectful
Follow directions
Listen
Give full attention
Be polite
Treat others like you want to be treated
Be courteous
Open to opinions
Eye contact
Involved
Contributing
Answering questions in class
Participate
Social interaction
Being actively engaged
Respond to others
This week's discussion includes two new topics.
The first is being organized. What does it mean to be organized? What does it look like? Can you think of a time when being organized really helped you in a tough situation? Is organization simply a school concept or can it help you at home as well?
The second is being reliable. What does it mean to be reliable? Are you someone who is reliable? Does being reliable help you be a better student. A better fiend? A better employee? A better family member?
We are looking forward hosting our fourth small group discussion on Tuesday. Thanks for helping us define these topics and thanks to the lucky numbered person that will represent each homeroom!
Yearbooks are going on sale soon!
Online: March 4 - March 15 the online ordering window will be open. Go to the ybpay.lifetouch.com link and use our yearbook ID code: 8897619. This information will also be on our SMS web site.
At SMS: Ms. Shuler and Mrs. Boley will be accepting orders with either cash or check payments in the main hallway before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays March 5, 7, 12, and 14. If you pay by check, make your checks out to SMS.
Yearbooks will be distributed in May.
Procedures, Procedures, Procedures!
1) If you are absent, your parent/guardian MUST call SMS the day you are sick OR send a note on the first day of your return. If you don't have a note, we call you to the office each morning. If you don't bring a note, we call you the next day, and the next, and the next. Help us keep you IN class by clearing absences as they occur!
2) If you need a bus pass (to ride to a location that is not your own home), you must bring a written note to Mrs. Manns by noon. Our school buses are not 'public transportation' where students can get dropped off wherever they please. Buses are an extension of school - and we always need to know where kids are at school. If your pass request is approved, Mrs. Manns will write you a yellow bus pass that you will show the driver. You will only be allowed to board a different bus or get dropped at a different house if you have the yellow paper.
3) If you don't feel well and you think you might need to go home, you need to communicate with your teacher that you'd like to see the nurse. Mrs. Beswick will evaluate your symptoms and determine the appropriate course of action. It may be that she sends you home and, if so, she will call your parent/guardian. It might be that she wants you to rest a bit in her office and then reevaluate you a short time later. Or it might be that Mrs. Beswick thinks that you should go back to class. The key here is that you are transparent with staff and that you don't take a short cut by texting home or by making a call home prior to a visit to the health office.
If you have any questions about these procedures, please see Miss Nass or Mr. Smith.
