Monday Memo

Holy Name of Mary, Monday, October 21, 2019

Happy Monday!

We have another "short" week ahead, but there are special events happening every day, so it is going to feel busy. We'll end with a PA Day for assessment on Friday. Here's to another great week!

Whiteboard marker hack

This is the section of the weekly memo where I try to include some sort of professional development. I don't know that this would qualify as PD, but it certainly might be a handy classroom trick.

Last week during inclement recess I stupidly let Catherine's students draw all over her whiteboards using her lovely bright dry erase markers. She was horrified when she came back from lunch! Apparently, doodling uses up a lot of ink. (I hadn't even considered that. I'm so old that I only ever had chalkboards as a classroom teacher.)

Anyway, this weekend I remembered this whiteboard marker hack that I saw somewhere last summer. Catherine, I sincerely hope your markers didn't completely dry out from all that lunchtime doodling. If they did, perhaps this will help. May the centrifugal force be with you.

This week's Shout-Outs:

Shout out to Lauren and Megan for the time they took out of their day to make phone calls to help the xcountry team-thank you!

- Erin

I am very thankful for the choir at Holy Name of Mary! It is very well organized, and the children sound beautiful from the choir loft. It makes church very engaging. Thank you so much to Ron, Andrew, Gina and Shannon for all you do to make Mass such a positive experience.

- Mary Bowers

A huge thank you to Kelly for helping me out with inclement weather supervision on Thursday when I was on my own! Thank you so much to Shane for dropping everything to clean my office on Friday just as he was about to go home.

- Pascale

I owe a big shout out to the following people who were so willing to help me this past week. With much gratitude I share the following with the staff:

Andie LaBelle-who did the many dishes from Monday's Breakfast, as we didn't have volunteers that day. To Tanya, Amy, Hannah who so kindly set up the tables and chairs for our Monday breakfast.

To Shane, who is always there when you need him and no task is too big.

- Mary Russell

Great Stuff

Here are a few photos of great things happening around the school last week. Don't be shy about texting me your own photos to include in these weekly newsletters. (Lots of people do!). I can't always get around to see everything, but I love to share what is happening in your classrooms. Click on any of the smaller photos to zoom in!

The Week Ahead

Here is a peek at the week ahead. Please check our Holy Name of Mary Staff calendar for all of the latest updates on what is happening this week at HNOM. As we often have last-minute changes, checking the staff calendar is the best way to get the most up-to-date information on events and absences. This short video tutorial will show you how it's done.
