Walkerton Elementary School!
Principal Fuller's Updates!
November 12th, 2021
Good afternoon, WES Families!
Please see below for all of the happenings at Walkerton Elementary!
Veterans Day 2021!
We want to once again say THANK YOU to all of our servicemen and servicewomen who have or are currently serving in the armed forces.
We have the brave men and women who dedicated themselves to serving this country for the freedom we have today.
If you did not get a chance to view the John Glenn School Corporation Veterans Day presentation, please see below for the video.
'Stuff the Bus' Food Drive! (Updated)
Walkerton Elementary Families...for our Stuff the Bus Food Drive, we collected 5,712 food items that were donated to our local Walkerton Food Pantry this morning!
When I found out that number, I needed to take a seat.
Our Walkerton Elementary Family (students, parents, teachers, staff) donated 5,712 items to help families in need this holiday season...wow.
When we say that we 'teach' our students at WES, it encompasses so much more than pages in a textbook. With this food drive, we are helping teach our WES students how to be good citizens and the importance of giving back to your community.
I am absolutely floored by the generosity that our WES Family has shown to those families in need, and I hope that YOU know that YOU made a difference in someone's life this holiday season.
From me to you, THANK YOU for all of your donations.

Youth Wrestling Camp! (New)
Please see the below message from JGHS Varsity Wrestling Coach Mr. Andy King:
Dear Parents,
We are excited to be able to offer to the elementary kids in our corporation this opportunity to be introduced to the sport of wrestling. Much like other extracurriculars it is an extension of the classroom, and provides a great alternative to the lessons that are being taught there by our wonderful teachers.
During this camp your student will learn the basic fundamentals of the sport, gain self confidence in themselves, and have fun learning the oldest sport in the world. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades K-6 and will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 weeks, starting on November 30th @ 5:45pm-6:45pm. At the completion of the camp we will host a mini tournament on Sunday December 19th @1pm in the Main Gym @ John Glenn High School.
Also if you were not aware, girls wrestling is an emerging sport in the state of Indiana. For girls it is currently the fastest growing sport in the country. It is anticipated that the IHSAA will sanction wrestling as a championship sport for girls in the next 2 years. College programs are already seeing this growth and it is starting to trickle down to the lower levels. If you happened to catch any of this past summer olympics you would have seen or heard of 2 local women who earned a place on Team USA Women's Freestyle team, Bronze Medalist Sarah Hildebrant ( Penn High School), and Kayla Miracle (Culver Military Academy).
Attached to this email is a flyer about the camp with all of the details. Also attached is a registration form that can be filled out and returned with camp fee to the school by November 29th. Otherwise registration can be completed on the first day of camp. If you have any questions and need additional information please call or email me.

(REMINDER) Leaves are Falling, and It Is Getting Cold!
Fall has come full force, as temperatures in the morning are now in the 20's!
As the weather begins to change, please remind your children that their clothes need to change as well. Coats, shoes, hats, gloves, etc. may be needed sooner rather than later.
If you need assistance in providing any type of clothing, please email Principal Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us
Similarly, as the rain (and God forbid snow) begins to fall, please remember to keep it slow in the parking lot, both in the morning and afternoon. We have a lot of very excited kids eager to both come to school and go home from school, and we want to make sure we are keeping them as safe as possible.
WES Devices: Chargers, and Cords Going Home (Recurring)
If/when a child is sent home for COVID related reasons, we want to ensure that each student has everything they need to meet virtually with their class(es): This includes sending home a device, charging brick, and cord.
Our Tech Department does a wonderful job of ensuring that these items are placed in a Ziploc bag with a note for each child.
As a reminder, if the charging brick and cord are not returned upon your child's returning to school, for grades KG-2nd, a $5 fee for each the charging brick and cord will be assessed to your child's account. For grades 3-6, a $20 fee will be assessed for a missing Chromebook charging brick and cord.
If items are misplaced or forgotten, we will send home a reminder to return the item, but if the charging brick or cord is not returned within 48 hours, that $5 fee will be assessed until the items are returned.
If you have any questions, please contact Principal Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us
Before and After School Program Transitioning to Boys and Girls Club (Recurring)
Starting this school year, the JG Before and After School Program is transitioning into the Boys and Girls Club to provide before and after school care for our elementary students.
You should have received an email from Mr. Davis earlier this week, but if not, please click HERE for more information on the program.
With any new program, there will be some bumps along the way, but here are TWO UPDATES that will hopefully alleviate any stress:
- The wonderful individuals you have gotten to know with John Glenn B/A Care will be back as part of the Boys and Girls Club Program!
- The service will start our first day of school, Wednesday, August 11th
Please register for care as normal. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Mrs. Heather Harrison at hharrison@jgsc.k12.in.us

Principal Fuller's Thoughts
Doing 'good' matters.
Whether it is helping a friend carry their backpack to class, or opening the door for a stranger so they can go first....the good we do in this world doesn't go unnoticed.
We try our best to praise our students at WES for doing 'the good'...lending a helping hand, donating food, making a new student smile their first day at WES...
...'doing good' matters.
Last night at our 6th Grade Basketball game, money was lost...that money was found and turned in to an adult by one of our students at WES...that kindness matters.
Character is what you do when no one is looking. What matters to me is how our WES students treat each other...but we also care deeply about how they act when they leave this building and how they represent themselves.
When your child does the right thing, let them know you are proud of them.
You don't need to do that with money or by giving them a treat...you simply just need to tell them that YOU are PROUD of who and what they did.
That will go miles.
I'm so PROUD of our students for their effort with 'Stuff the Bus', and I'm so PROUD of our staff and community for rallying behind such a good cause.
THANK YOU for all of your continued support of WES!
