Face Coverings Update
At tonight's meeting, the Board of Education voted to make face coverings optional at school facilities and at school functions, except on school buses where masks are required per Federal Order, effective immediately. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Platte County School District has been following guidelines from area health authorities (Platte County Health Department, Clay County Health Department, and Kansas City Health Department). The Board's decision is in alignment with recent changes to local public health orders, stating the requirement for face coverings has expired, regardless of vaccination status.
While face coverings are no longer required, our local health departments and the CDC strongly recommend that all individuals who are not fully vaccinated continue to wear masks.
Please keep in mind that although the requirement for face coverings has been lifted, they are optional. You may decide what is best for your family. Other COVID-19 preventative mitigation measures (physical distancing, cleaning and hand hygiene practices, and limited visitors) remain in effect. Unmasked individuals who are identified as a close contact of a positive case will be required to quarantine from school for 14 days. We will continue to monitor cases of COVID-19 within our District and re-evaluate our health and safety plans if necessary.
Medication Return or Disposal (Repeat)
As we approach the end of the school year, we would like to ensure student’s medications in the health room are returned. The Platte County R-3 School District medication policy does NOT allow medications to be sent home with a student or be kept in the health room over the summer.
Medications must be picked up in the health room during regular school hours.
If you would prefer to have the school dispose of your child’s medications, please notify the school nurse by Tuesday, May 25th.
All Medications remaining in the health room at the end of the school day, 11:40 on Wednesday, May 26th, will be properly disposed of by the school nurse.
If you have any questions, please call the school nurse, Kelly Thomas, at 816.436.9623

All 8th grade students who cannot provide proof of having the Tdap and MCV being given will not be able to start the 2021-2022 school year. Students will NOT receive their schedules at back-to-school events and will NOT be able to start on the first day of school next year until proof of the vaccines being given is provided.
