From Kati
Be sure to go by the first/fifth grade hallway and see the display of 5th grade's "Light up Poetry" project. A great cross-curricular opportunity for students to explore circuitry and express themselves. Students were really excited by the project and every student turned theirs in on time!
Have a wonderful week :).

Student Opportunities
Get Creative with the Don’t Mess with Texas Elementary School Art Contest.
Attention all kindergarten through 5th grade teachers:
Don’t Mess with Texas® and Keep Texas Beautiful invite you to participate in their Elementary School Art Contest, sponsored by H-E-B and Central Market.
Set aside classroom time to get creative.
Inspired by their desire to protect our environment, elementary school students from across Texas can submit their original artwork for a chance to be featured in the 2017 Don’t Mess with Texas Calendar. Entries will be judged based on creativity and uniqueness, inclusion of a litter prevention message and interpretation of the Don’t Mess with Texas and/or Keep Texas Beautiful mission, overall visual appeal, composition, and age appropriateness.
Students win prizes and have their art featured.
Students who create the top 13 winning designs will have their artwork featured in the calendar and will also win an iDeaUSA 8 tablet donated by H-E-B and Central Market. All student winners and their artwork will be showcased on the Don’t Mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful websites and social media sites, at the 2016 Keep Texas Beautiful annual conference, and through other channels.
Teachers win, too!
Teachers representing the students who produce the top 13 designs will each win a $100 H-E-B/Central Market gift card.
Everything you'll need to participate—including fact sheets, official rules, and the contest entry form and agreement—is posted at DontMessWithTexas.org. You can also download a flyer to display at your school to generate interest.
All entries must be submitted or postmarked on or before April 8, 2016. If you have any questions, please contact Kristen Marstaller, Visual Arts Coordinator, at 512-414-4730 or by email at Kristen.marstaller@austinisd.org.
