Boerne ISD Board Report

Open Session
The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in the BISD Board Room (Commendations were held in the Boerne Academy Cafeteria). Pursuant to the Governor's declaration due to COVID-19 emergency, this meeting was held with limited occupancy and observed all prescribed safety measures.
Board Commendations
The Board commended Boerne ISD students and staff, as well as celebrated district-wide honors.
CHS College Board Recognition
Champion High School has several College Board National Rural and Small Town Scholars, as well as National Hispanic Scholars.
To earn this recognition, students must excel in the PSAT/NMSQT, Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the middle of their junior year, and Identify as African American, Hispanic or Latinx, Indigenous, and/or attend school in a rural area or small town.
National Rural and Small Town Scholars:
Katelyn Willis, Maggie Magaw, Emily Payne, Noah Champagne, and Emma Toa.
National Hispanic Scholars:
Ashley Rickenbach, Desirae Gallardo, and Michael Boyd.
National Hispanic Scholar and National Rural and Small Town Scholars:
Andrew Jeffery and Noah Hendricks-Hernandez.
Student Calendar Contest Winners
Congratulations to the 2021 Boerne ISD Student Calendar Contest Winners. These students submitted their artwork to be considered for the BISD Board Appreciation Calendar.
Every art class in Boerne ISD participated, and there were hundreds of entries in the contest. Students were asked to create a calendar design with the theme “What do you like most about your school?” Each campus is represented in the calendar with a student design, with Boerne Middle School North also represented with the cover art. Each student will receive a 2021 calendar featuring their art.

Coach Che Hendrix- BHS
Boerne Greyhounds Football Coach Che Hendrix was named the 2020 District 14 4-A Football Coach of the Year!
Coach Hendrix led the Greyhounds to their first outright District Championship since 2005, and into the third round of the playoffs. The Greyhounds finished 9-3 overall and went 4-0 in district play.
Coach Joey Cantu- CHS
Champion Charger Tennis Coach Joey Cantu was named the Texas Tennis Coaches Association Class 5-A Region 4 Coach of the Year.
Coach Cantu led the Chargers to the Regional Finals and a 13-2 overall record. Champion had an outstanding Tennis season!
Dorman Vick- CHS
Champion Welding Instructor Dorman Vick was selected as a 2021 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Community Champion.
The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Community Champions recognition was created to honor those whose leadership, volunteerism, and public involvement embody the spirit of service in our community. Dorman was recognized for his involvement with the Champion Welding students in building the deer blind for the disabled veteran.

Board of Trustees Election Called
The Board Approved an Election Order that calls for a general election on Saturday, May 1st, 2021, for Boerne Independent School District Trustees Place 1, Place 2, and Place 3. This will be a joint election with the Kendall County Elections Office.
Superintendent's Report
-Heading into the second semester our enrollment has increased to 9,732 students. We received a large number of newly enrolled students today, as well as returning students to In-Person learning.
-We sent out our school quality survey to parents (last Thursday) and students (Today).
-Our Kindness Campaign is going very well on our campuses. Our Student Advisory and our staff are doing a great job of promoting being kind to one another. The Kindness Campaign is not related to any national campaign. Our students are leading the conversations on our campuses.
