Skill Building at PWMS with Well-Managed Schools
So far students have been taught eleven skills:
- Following Instructions
- Accepting Criticism or a Consequence
- Accepting 'No' for an Answer
- Disagreeing Appropriately
- Working with Others
- Staying on Task
- Listening
Appropriate Voice Tone
Making an Apology
Asking Permission
This week the students have been working on the skill of Having a Conversation.
There are 16 skills that will be directly taught to students. Each week families will get an email explaining the skill that has been taught and the student protocol for the skill. We encourage families to ask their students about these skills and to utilize them at home.

Reminders
- Cold Weather Reminder: Please remind your students to dress appropriately for school now that the weather is getting colder. Students will need to have warm winter gear for the playground.
- Drop Off and Pick Up at PWMS:
- Stay in the right lane for drop off and pick up. Never drop off or pick up your student in the left lane. Dropping or picking up in the left lane creates a very unsafe environment for your student and puts them at risk of being injured by another vehicle.
- Pull as far up in the right lane as possible. Please do not park in the right lane - be prepared to pull forward every time a car ahead of you leaves or moves forward. When a car is parked and doesn't move forward in the right lane, it slows the process down for everyone behind that car.
- Do not block cars or lanes in the parking lot. If you are unable to find a spot to pull into then you must keep circling until a spot opens. An unsafe environment is created when lanes and cars are blocked from getting out. If you have not parking spot, you must keep driving until one opens up.
- Contacting Your Student - If you need to communicate with your students, please do not call or text them on their cell phone. Students are expected to have phones powered down and put away between 8:05 and 2:55. If you need to contact your student, you can either contact the school or email your student directly. If you plan on emailing your student, please let them know that you will be communicating to them through email so that they are checking their account. Please do not wait until the end of the day to contact the school if you have a message. It is extremely busy in the office at the end of the day and it is difficult to get the information to your student.
- Building Hours - Prairie Winds opens at 7:30 am. If a student is dropped off earlier than 7:30 am, they will be expected to wait outside. All students should be picked up by 3:25 pm.
- Connections Program - If your student needs to be at school later than 3:25, please sign them up for the after school program Connections. Click here for more information about Connections.
- "Like" Us on Facebook! - Click here to visit the Prairie Winds Facebook page.
