Our Busy Classrooms
News from Science
Mr. Ratzloff has put together a list of some of his favorite science and science-related gifts for kids. These games and toys are all under $20, durable, and fun for the whole family. Check out the list here:
News from Pre-K:
We started a new unit called Being Healthy In Our World. This week we talked about healthy habits and got some new centers to learn in- like a Doctor's Office in Ms. Sharon's class and a Gym in Ms. Katie's class.
News from our Kindergators:
Our dear kindergators are working so hard in literacy. They are also really developing a great love for reading...as seen here in our Exploratorium while checking out new books with Ms Rosie.
News from 1st Grade:
This week in First Grade, we began our new writing unit of How To. Students work on using steps when writing, such as, "First, next, then and finally" in order to teach someone else how to do something. This week we began with making lists of what we know how to do and other topics of how to go about building a snowman as a class. In reading, we are looking at multiple books by the same author to look at an author's writing style and what they like to have in each of their books. We also have been practicing doing turn and talks to share our opinion of a book after reading it. In math, we are practicing making 10 in different ways!
News from 2nd Grade:
Congratulations 2nd graders! 2nd grade has filled their class Gator with Gator Chomps. Gator Chomps are squares of paper given to the class when they are being safe, responsible and respectful. 2nd grade has voted to have a pajama day on Friday, December 17th!
News from 3rd Grade:
Exciting things are happening in 3rd grade! We have been working hard on learning different ways to represent multiplication and division facts, writing realistic fiction stories, preparing to give book talks, and learning about early civilizations, starting with ancient Egypt. Our hard work paid off with our first Pajama Day! Students enjoyed bringing their stuffed animals to recess and having flashlight reading time. Our next goal is to earn extra recess. It’s cold and snowy out on the playground these days! Make sure your student has a coat, hat, and gloves/mittens every day. Please reach out if you do not already have these items for your student. Don’t forget Picture Day on Monday!
News from 4th Grade:
We've started reading logs this past week. They should come check in with you each night to show you what they've read so that you can initial each night. I'm looking forward to hearing about the reading-routines being built at home!
News from 5th Grade:
Our fabulous fifth graders love to take on various leadership opportunities throughout our building from taking care of recycling for the school to helping our Pre-K classes prepare for dismissal each day. This week they started a new opportunity. They are the clerks at the new Gator Bite Store. They had a blast helping all of their little Gator friends navigate shopping and counting their out their bites as payment.
Also...5th grade families are invited to attend the Murray Middle School Showcase to learn more about Murray! See the attached flyer for more information.
