Art Lines
WOW! The art room is certainly a “flurry” of excitement and activity as we focus on the winter subject matters at hand. Kindergarten is working on having a demonstrated knowledge of line and shape as tools for their art work goals which includes an introduction to the term “elements of art”. They are drawing Sweater Weather Polar Bears! First grade is also working on a Polar Bear with Scene design but they are using an applied strategy for symmetry by drawing on a fold to get the symmetrical balance needed for the correct bear shape. 2nd graders are working on a Winter Ski Resort with 3D winter cottages with snow on the roof and a lot of physical activities going on outside on the slopes! 3rd Grade is completing their Winter Self Portraits which look amazing and 4th Grade is busy creating a Snowman Starry Night Landscape. They are using the inspiration of two other works of art, the first is Van Gogh’s painting called Starry Night and the second is Caralyn Buehner’s book for children called “Snowmen at Night!” This piece will be their mid- year evaluation for their Student Learning Objective or SLO goal for 4th grade! The 5th graders are creating a Winter City Scape in 1- point perspective. This project is quite complicated as they are learning to use the art vocabulary terms: horizon line, vanishing point and perspective in applied knowledge to this project. They are drawing a NYC city scape from the perspective of looking UP! Skyscrapers are on all four sides of the drawing and the angles, ruler skills, and math required in creating the composition is quite extensive. I am proud of all the hard work my students are doing during the month of January. The art work will be on display as they complete their challenges on the art display banners hanging outside of the art room and a few others located around the school! Music Notes
Happy New Year! I don't know about you, but I'm thankful I survived 2020. One thing is for sure, I cherish teaching my kids more every single day.
We will continue our lessons on the Quaver music site because the kids love the songs and activities. Half way through January, we will start Unit 3 which means we will be half way through the school year. I can't believe half of the year is gone already-time flies when we are having fun learning. 3rd-5th will do a study on Ballet the 1st few weeks back while K-2 will continue learning basic musicals skills and musical Italian words.
At this time, 3rd-5th will not be learning and continuing their skills on the Recorder. Until I get the OK from the district, we are not allowed to play them in class and I really don't want to put more on you with having them to learn at home. As soon as we get the go ahead- we will start them again. My 5th grade kids are not too happy about this because they want to pass the Black Belt.
Thanks, and as always, feel free to email or call with any questions or concerns.

It's a new year.... time for some new changes! Have a new years resolution yet? Is it health based? Here are a few tips to help with that Exercise/Diet New Year's resolution!
EXERCISE: If you look forward to (or at least do not actively hate) a particular physical activity, do it. If you like tennis, find an indoor court. If you like dancing, look into dance-based workouts like Zumba. Do whatever will make you move. Just because you know things like running and jumping are great cardio does not mean they have to be your thing. If you like what you are doing, you will do it continually. If you do not like what you are doing, you won’t do it. If you are not sure what you would enjoy, try a variety of activities until you find one that sticks. NUTRITION: Once you assess your food choices, there are small changes you can make that will add up to a big difference. Sugar-free pudding, sugar-free fudge pops, pickles, and wasabi peas are sweet, salty, and spicy foods you can eat without guilt. The sugar-free pudding and frozen fudge pops will satisfy your cravings for sweets; pickles will calm the salty cravings; and wasabi peas will give you some spicy bite. Wasabi peas are around 140 calories per serving, but you will find that one serving is plenty.
