Youth Mental Health First Aid
2020-2021 Agency Wide Training
YMHFA In-person Agency Wide Training Date Released
This training course is designed to teach adults how to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people.
The in person training schedule is:
8:00-11:00 training
11:00-12:00 lunch
12:00-3:30 training
Location: Pocahontas AEA Office - Black Hawk Conference Room
There is no charge for this training.
This training also meets the Iowa legislation requirement of one hour of suicide prevention training for school districts.
How Youth Mental Health First Aid Can Help
- Informs adults about common mental health concerns among youth
- Reduces stigma
- Teaches adults how to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health problems in youth
- Teaches a 5 step action plan to help youth who may be facing a mental health problem or crisis
