Within the Autism Spectrum Disorder, the child is often “lost” within a world of special interests, executive functioning (e.g., awareness and integration) differences, as well as, difficulties communicating their needs and wants when the world is ever-changing, abstract in nature, and difficult to predict.
Dawn Mannebach, a CESA 8 School Psychologist will do an overview on the characteristics of educational autism and executive functioning, as well as, highlight several evidenced-based practices that our children must have available in order to function more independently and autonomously.
Joanne Laurich, CESA 8 PST, and Assistive Technology Coordinator will follow up showing and demonstrating assistive technology that supports these evidence-based practices.
Deb Wall, CESA Director of Special Education, RSN Director, and CPI trainer will address Seclusion and Restraint practices. This will not be a training for certification, but policies and procedures will be reviewed.
Transition:
We will be offering a separate sectional with Kathy Tuttle (Transition Improvement Grant). Kathy is the northern regional coordinators and serves CESAs 8, 9. and 12th. She will be sharing her knowledge regarding transition and self-advocacy for students. Kathy's sectional will go from 9:00 to 1:30.
