District 91 Reopening Summary

The Lockport District 91 Board of Education (BOE) approved a two-phase reopening plan for the 20-21 school year at their meeting on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. This decision was the result of months of thoughtful consideration and brainstorming of options. While nothing short of a return to normalcy will satisfy the needs of every member of our school community, this plan reflects consideration of all stakeholder groups. Our schools look forward to the day that we are able to welcome all children back to school safely; however until that is possible, we are committed to ensuring equity for all learners.

Phase 1

Remote Learning

Lockport District 91 will offer full remote learning to all students to start the year. The first day of student learning will take place on Monday, August 31st. All fully registered students will participate via remote instruction through Friday, September 25th.

During Phase 1, teachers will be offering instruction remotely from their classrooms on a predictable schedule (see sample below). Students will alternate between live lessons and independent activities, including specials, throughout the school day. Streaming live sessions through Google Meet will be recorded and shared with students via Google Classroom for viewing later in the day if needed.

Phase 2

Blended Learning with Remote Option

After the completion of Phase 1, students who selected the blended option will attend in person two days per week beginning on Monday, September 28th to commence Phase 2 of the reopening plan. Those who chose to commit to remote learning would remain connected to their classroom via live streamed lessons. Students enrolled in the blended option would be scheduled to the Green or the Gold group based upon last name and information collected during the enrollment period. Students enrolled remotely would be scheduled to the White group.

On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, teachers will be providing instruction to students attending in person while streaming the lesson to the students who are attending remotely. On Wednesday, all students will receive instruction remotely; as a result, that day's remote learning schedule will differ slightly from the rest of the week.

Next Steps

Next week, families will receive additional information and will be asked to make a decision between the in-person blended option and the full remote option. Caregivers will need to complete registration and choose a learning option by Monday, August 10th in order for administration to assign attendance groups (green and gold) and finalize class lists.

Students will remain in the selected learning option through December.

Families should expect to receive:

  • Parent/School Responsibilities for each Learning Option
  • Procedure to submit choice
  • Calendar
  • School Supply List

Beyond Phases 1 & 2

Return to Full Attendance

Once the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) guidance recommends social distancing under six feet, a return to full in person attendance can be considered.
