Bulldog Bulletin
Schultz Junior High School
Welcome back
The 2019-2020 school year is well well under way and some amazing things are happening at SJH! We have unveiled a new positive behavior incentive program where students can earn Bulldog Bucks for our newly renovated Walk Like a Bulldog store. Our students and staff can be seen engaged daily in new activities and projects. I am proud of such an amazing start on our campus and I am looking forward to a wonderful year!

One to One Technology FAQs
If my child mistakenly takes his/her Chromebook home, what do I do? Students should try to make sure that they turn in their Chromebook each day. However, if they forget, you may email/call their 8th period teacher to let them know it is safe and return it the next day. Repeated instances will be handled by the student’s Assistant Principal.
What if my child’s Chromebook is damaged? If your child’s Chromebook is damaged in anyway, it’s best to have them put in a work order as soon as possible. Students are encouraged to go to the technology office during their advisory or to room 807 during lunches. Should there be extenuating circumstances, an administrator will investigate to determine if any financial charges will be made to the student’s account.
How do the students get their Chromebooks each day? At 7:07 am students are allowed to go to their 8th period classroom and pick up their Chromebook and go to their 1st period class. The tardy bell rings at 7:15am They carry their Chromebook in their backpack during the day. While in their 8th period class, they return the Chromebook to its assigned cart location. It will stay locked in the cart to charge overnight. If a student leaves early, they will leave their Chromebook with the front office. Their 8th period teacher will ensure that it gets returned to the cart later in the day.
Does the district offer insurance for the student computer?
Yes! Optional insurance is a $20 non-refundable annual fee!
Feel free to contact the technologist, Jeanne Ronemous, at 936-372-4288 if you have any questions or need more details on the optional insurance.
Counselor's Corner
Welcome back to another great school year! We wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to our counseling team here at SJH.
Meet Your SJH Counselors:
I am excited to be serving your son or daughter this year as one of the SJH counselors! I have been blessed to have been a counselor in this district for fifteen years and have loved every minute of it. Please feel free to contact us if there is anything we can do to help your child have a successful year!
-Christy Smith (SJH Counselor; Last names A-Ll)
I am also blessed to be serving as counselor at SJH. I have been at SJH for the past three years as a Spanish teacher and also as a counselor.
-Laura May (SJH Counselor; Last names Lo-Z)
The SJH Counseling Center has started the year off with a bang! Here are just a few of the things the counselors have been up to:
-Our advisory lesson on September 3rd was on the use of Student Planners in which students learned how to use a monthly and weekly planner. The students were challenged to use a weekly planner for the next week and those that did, received a little treat! Those students that were interested in continuing to use a planner for the Fall semester were given a planner to use as well.
-On September 10th-11th we presented to the 6th graders through their PE/Dance classes about what counselors can help with, how they can help (individual counseling, group counseling, or classroom guidance), how they can request to see one of the counselors, and information on our counseling groups that we will be offering this school year.
-The week of October 7th-11th, Family Ties, Family Resource Services, a local Children’s Crisis and Advocacy Center funded to provide a variety of healthy relationship and anti-bullying curriculums by the Office of the Governor of Texas, will be presenting to our 6th-8th grade students through science classes.
Family Ties will cover the topic of healthy relationships and anti-bullying curriculum through their D.R.I.V.E. Program (Developing Respect, Integrity, Vision & Empathy).
Parents are encouraged to participate in providing a safe atmosphere for their children. For more information about the awareness programs or how you can help, feel free to contact Shanah Stautmeister, Family Ties Director of Primary Prevention and Youth Education, at (936) 931-2299, or one of the SJH counselors.
-If your son or daughter is in need of backpacks or school supplies, please let us know. A big thanks to Schultz Junior High staff and Boys & Girls Country for graciously donating school supplies for our students in need!
IDs, SMART Bus Tags, & More…
Please remind your child to be responsible with their student ID and Bus Tag. Students are required to wear their IDs for safety purposes, as well as book checkout in the library, lunch and to board busses. If a student forgets their ID, they can purchase a temporary ID for $1. Students may also purchase the following:
*Replacement clear pockets for $1
*Replacement lanyards for $1
*Replacement ID for $2
*Replacement Bus Tag for $5
*Replacement ID and Bus Tag Package for $7
Dress Code
As a reminder, students who are out of dress code will sit in In-School Suspension (ISS) if they cannot immediately remedy the issue. They will remain in ISS until the end of the day or until appropriate clothes are delivered that allow the student to be in compliance. Please help us in ensuring students receive as much instruction as possible by familiarizing yourself with the dress code and taking a moment to review your child’s outfit. The district dress code can be found here on the district website.
Attendance & Tardies
Attendance:
If a student misses a school day, an unexcused absence is automatically recorded. To have that unexcused absence changed to an excused absence, a doctor's note must be brought to the school registrar when the student comes back to school. Schultz Junior High complies with Texas State Law that requires students be in school for 90% of each semester. If students miss more than 10% of a given semester, excused or unexcused, students may be denied credit. Warning letters and phone calls will be made to any student before they reach the 10% threshold.
Tardies:
If a student is late to any class period throughout the day, a student will be marked tardy and given a lunch detention. Five tardies in any given six weeks will result in a discipline referral that can be served through ISS or community service. For any specific questions or concerns, please see an Assistant Principal.
