Quote

As Clover looked down the hillside her eyes filled with tears. If she could have spoken her thoughts; it would have been to say that this was not what they had aimed at when they had set themselves years ago to work for the overthrow of the human race. These scenes of terror and slaughter were not what they had looked forward to on that night when old Major first stirred them to rebellion.

Themes

  • Equality:
Nobody was ever treated the same on the farm. The pigs and dogs always got the most respect, the best food, and never had to do any work. The other animals on the farm never got the same education and most of the animals didn't know how to read.

Important Event

The Battle of Cowshed was a battle about freedom. The animals wanted to rebel against Mr. Jones and get freedom. They didn't want to be a slave to Mr. Jones they wanted to be free and work on their own terms. When the won this battle they got freedom that they all had wished for.

Symbol

The saying around the farm used to be "four legs good, two legs bad". Then the pigs stared walking on two legs and stared chanting "Four legs good, two legs better". This showed that niether Napoleon or the pigs thought that everyone was equal. They also started changing the rules around the farm for the circumstances that they wanted and made the animals think that they just forgot what the rules had said.
