Gators of the Week - Work hard. Get smart. Do good.

Gators of the Week: Southern Charm (RBHS Show Choir) are National Champs and RBHS Choral Dept. Shines in Virginia

Work hard. Congratulations to the RBHS Choral Department who performed and competed in a National Competition this past weekend in Virginia Beach, VA. Under the direction of director Ms. Keisler and choreographer Mr. Hilton, the students represented very well. Southern Charm got 1st place for show choir division and a Superior rating! Chamber Choir got 1st place for mixed choirs in our division (division A) and a Superior rating! Finally, Chamber Choir got the OVERALL highest choir score at the competition across all divisions, qualifying them for 1st place overall. What an amazing weekend for all choirs.

Gators of the Week: Virtual Enterprise teams boasts wins in International competition in NYC

Get Smart: Please join me in congratulating the following students who just returned from the Virtual Enterprise International competition in NYC and won the following awards:

We had two top winners [Christina Bradshaw and Ebony Romero] in two different teams in the Global Business Challenge, (30 teams competing); these students analyzed a Harvard Business Review and worked with team members they just met on Monday [from around the US and several students from other countries] to present their findings to the judges and answer questions.

Christina Bradshaw's team won 1st Place! (pictured on left)

Ebony Romero's team placed in the final round of top 6

The following students competed against 145 school teams and won a Gold award for Best Trade Show booth design:

Christina Bradshaw

Taylor Cottrell

Katie Certain

Ebony Romero

Ian Campbell

Morgan Boozer

Maddie Mason

Katie Certain won a Silver award for the web site she created for the Virtual Firm Earth Market; in addition the team made well over $150,000 in "virtual" sales during the trade show.

Gators of the Week: RBHS students attend TEDx Youth Conference

Do good. Several students from RBHS attended the TEDx Youth Conference this past week learning about leadership and current issues. Thank you to Ms. Stiglbauer and others from RBHS for hosting the group's visit.

EL Design Principle in Action

The Responsibility for Learning

Learning is both a personal process of discovery and a social activity. Everyone learns both individually and as part of a group. Every aspect of an Expeditionary Learning school encourages both children and adults to become increasingly responsible for directing their own personal and collective learning.

The coming weeks will allow for many students the opportunity to show mastery of two standardized tests Workkeys and the ACT. At the end of April, all third year high school students will take these tests. Each student testing will be expected to show grit and endurance in taking these tests. Thank you ahead of time for your diligence in testing and preparing to do your best. Students not testing will have planned academic events to experience while the testing experience takes place.
