AMCMS Principal's Office
What's Going on in the Principal's Office?!
My Challenge to You
I really enjoy watching the CBS Sunday Morning show because of the wonderful and often humerus stories about life they share. This one is one of my favorites and I thought that it would be great to share with all of you not because there is some hidden message that I see regarding education. This story is a heart warming story about the quirks of human nature and the bonds between humans and animals.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I also hope that you had a wonderful Easter Weekend doing what makes you happy and celebrating how you celebrate with those that mean the most to you. After all, that is what life it really about, isn't it?!
Think. Achieve. Succeed.

Lesson Planning vs Lesson Designing
I am sure that those of you who responded (and perhaps those that didn't respond) are wondering what I think about the difference between planning and designing lessons.
I do not think you can effectively separate the two from each other because the "what" (content) and the "how" (lesson activities) go hand in hand. The learning experience (movement, manipulations, visuals, auditory components, collaboration, technologies, etc) are what make the content engaging and relative to students. All of those design experiences (how) must be planned with the content (what) so that it all flows and makes sense for the learners.
It was a great discussion and the article really prompts some thinking and reflection into what it means to plan lessons. The article below is a great kick start to that reflection process. I encourage you to read it and reflect on your planning and designing.

AMCMS Visioning Conversation
This document helps to shape my thinking as a principal. I feel that in order for us to continue to grow and develop into the AMCMS that our students need then we need to have discussions based off the ideas, spirit, and thinking that went into creating this document.
The conversation last Tuesday was primarily centered around this one question:
If you could pull out a magic wand and change one thing about education, what would you change?
The discussion was rich and there were many great things shared from everyone that was in the room. I took 6 or so pages of notes and I have been thinking of many of the items discussed since that meeting. The outcome for me was that most of what we discussed on Tuesday as a group are things that we can change as a campus right now without anything to hold ourselves back except for us.
Think about that.
This type of a discussion revels what are true roadblocks and what are perceived roadblocks. When we are able to identify the roadblocks and classify the roadblocks then we are free to do what we need to do for our students.
On Tuesday April 5 at 4:30 we will be having a continuance of this conversation in the library. Everyone is welcome to attend, just as the last meeting. If you plan to come, please be sure to read over the document and be ready to choose one of the articles that you would like to explore more about.
