BEDFORD JUNIOR HIGH JWAC TEAM COMPLETES IN THE ACADEMIC WORLDQUEST COMPETITION

Wednesday, February 22nd, the Bedford Jr. High JWAC travelled to the University of Arlington to compete in the World Affairs Council's annual Academic WorldQuest competition. This competition quizzed students about geopolitical topics ranging from policy in the Arctic to the future of supply chains. They competed against local high schools, who have had national top-ranking teams for the past several years. Although it was a very competitive field, our teams did great! One of the teams even scored in the top third! Great job, Broncos!

BJH STUDENT DESTINY STUMP WINS THE "LEAVE YOUR HEART ON HURST" ART CONTEST

Destiny turned a bit of Hurst's history into art by showcasing William Letchworth Hurst, AKA "Uncle Billy," with his wife and seven children. The family made their journey to Texas from Tennessee around 1890. Uncle Billy later made a deal with Rock Island Railroad to allow the railroad to travel through part of his land to connect Fort Worth to Dallas, leading to Hurst's creation and the depot that carried his name. Destiny's art can be seen on the utility box at 798 W Hurst Blvd., Hurst, TX 76053

BEDFORD UNITED SOCCER

Wednesday night, Bedford United had a strong showing against the Blackhawks Soccer Club. Terel Kabayi scored on an early penalty kick to put Bedford United up 1-0. Later midfielder Ahmad Alsary notched two goals and our defense secured the victory. Final score: Bedford 3, Blackhawks 1.

FRESHMAN GIRLS SOCCER

The Freshman girls’ soccer team defeated Crowley High School Tuesday night with a solid team effort.

Goalkeeper, Joella Choi, started the scoring with a perfectly placed penalty kick after we earned a PK from a hand ball in the box off of a fantastic cross from Katrina Spencer. Katrina quickly followed that up with a second goal of her own. The Lady Freshman Broncos continued to build on the lead with goals from Ella Trevino, Aliya Kershaw, Giselle Nino, and Amira Yassin. Final Score: Bedford 6, Crowley 1.

8TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The 8th grade Lady Bronco basketball team competed in the District tournament this past weekend. The girls played Richland Middle School at home on Thursday and crushed the competition running the floor, full-court pressure on defense, rebounds, and teamwork. The girls advanced to the winner side of the bracket to play a tough Smithfield team on Friday night. Our Lady Broncos did their best to make it a competitive game, however, we were not able to bring home the W. Coach P is proud of their efforts and for playing hard all the way to the end. Our team had our final game on Saturday against Colleyville Middle School to compete for 3rd place, and the girls absolutely dominated. There was no hope for the Colts & the girls took home 3rd this season. Coach Pembleton is proud of each and every one of her girls this season, both A and B team. Thanks for always working hard and striving to get better! Go Broncos!

7TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL

7th grade girls Team 1 brought home the district championship this weekend. After defeating Harwood on Tuesday the girls took on Heritage Middle school on Friday winning 38-15. On Saturday the girls came ready and won a big one against Central 42-31 to bring home the championship. These girls played so hard all year and they were rewarded. Coach Hurtado is so proud of everyone for your hard work and dedication. Thank you for an unforgettable season.

7TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL

Last week your BJH boys played in the end-of-the-year basketball tournament. Tuesday night, your BJH boys took on Hurst defeating them 39-36 in a close game. Playing Friday night against Smithfield middle school with a chance to go on to Saturday's championship game, the BJH boys came out hot, taking an early 14-5 lead and the boys never looked back. They easily defeated Smithfield 40-27 putting them in the championship game Saturday afternoon at 1:30. Saturday's game against Colleyville was a much-anticipated match after your Broncos defeated Colleyville 42-41 earlier in the season. Putting up a tremendous effort, and fighting to the end your BJH boys came up just short of their goal of gold losing 35-49.
