Varsity Soccer
This year’s varsity soccer season has started off great for Piedmont Academy. So far, the varsity girls have had four away games and one home game, and the varsity boys have had three away games and one home game. The varsity girls’ first game on February 28th against Windsor was a success because the game ended with the mercy rule because the girls won with a score of 12-1. The varsity boys’ first game against Monsignor Donovan where the varsity girls also played was not as much of a success. Both the varsity girls and boys lost. The next game which was at Georgia Military College was also not much of a success. Both teams lost again. The next game was against the public school, Social Circle High School. The boys lost, but the girls tied with a score of 2-2. The last game was a home game against John Milledge. Both teams, again, lost. Wish the varsity team luck on the rest of their season!

Faculty Spotlight
This month's faculty spotlight is Mrs. Allison Hildebrant. Mrs. Hildebrant is currently one of our longest employed faculty members at Piedmont Academy. She has been involved with Piedmont since 2004 and was officially employed in 2010 as the lunch lady at the Cougar Cafe. She has been a substitute teacher, soccer coach, room mom, shotgun coach, parent volunteer, and is currently the PTO President, tennis coach, admissions director, and drives the bus to sporting events. She is outdoorsy, likes cooking, reading, music, and spending time with family and friends. We all hope she will remain a member of the PAC family for years to come.

Chapel
Either on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, Piedmont Academy has held a chapel in the upper gym for almost all of the students. Usually, Coach Wes Tanner speaks at the chapels. Coach Tanner has recently become a youth pastor at Monticello Baptist Church in Monticello, and he enjoys speaking to Piedmont students as well. First, he discussed the baggage humans carry around, and he mentioned that God wants to relieve us of our struggles and help carry the load. Coach Tanner’s next topic was gossiping. He told the students that gossiping is not what God calls us to do, and it hurts people’s feelings. On a different day, Grayson Bradley, a Piedmont senior, spoke, too. Grayson talked about that it is our choice to determine our path’s in our own personal faith. She emphasized making honorable decisions and living the way God instructs. Grayson said, “It was totally out of my comfort zone to speak in front of the whole school, but I felt God was calling me to do so. I have really wanted to do it since my sophomore year. Chapel is a wonderful aspect to Piedmont!"

National Honor Society
The interview process of the National Honors Society or NHS recently began. Mrs. Kimberly Kummel is the current advisor for National Honor Society. In order to be considered for NHS, a student must have a 3.5-grade point average. After students receive an application and fill in the information, an interview takes place. Tony Tanner, Michael Wilson, Tracy Brady, Molly Tyree, Beth Crowder, Mary Catherine Sikes, and Tonya Coe were the judges who determined acceptance into National Honor Society. The interviews continued during sixth and seventh periods for a week. Aside from the interviews and the applications, the teachers also looked at teacher evaluations of each student, as well as community service, character, and leadership. The induction ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 12th during study hall.

Devotion
After I read Sadie Robertson’s first book, Live Original, I was really happy when I was told she just released another book. This book is called Live Fearless. As someone would think, the book focuses on how Sadie became fearless through God. Also, she discusses that many times we allow our feelings to alter in our minds who God actually is. John Piper once said, “My feelings are not God. God is God. My feelings do not define truth. God’s word defines truth. My feelings are echoes and responses to what my mind perceives. And sometimes - many times - my feelings are out of sync with the truth.”
John Piper’s quote put many things into perspective. Although we all endure hard times, some of us, me included, allow ourselves to replace God with the way we feel. Our feelings are not who God is, because God is God, and we must allow Him to do His job. Next, God writes the truth. For instance in Psalm 139:14, it is written, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Also, all throughout Psalm 139 talks about how well God actually knows us, and we should take this with confidence to know that no matter what other people say, we are wonderful because God says that. No matter how you feel, God is still on the throne. Allow this fact to bring comfort.

Do We Still Need Libraries?
Libraries are useful because they provide many things such as interesting stories, important information, and much more, but why do we still have libraries if we can find all of these things on the Internet? There are some people that argue that we have no use for libraries anymore because the Internet is basically a library that we can go to without actually going anywhere. However, most people, like me, say that we will always need libraries despite the existence of the Internet. Libraries are like a safe-house for information. When information gets put on the Internet, it becomes in danger of being changed or plagiarized. Books in libraries go through publishers who proof-read the information provided and make sure that it’s not plagiarized.
Another important reason for libraries is the tangibility of books. When information is on the Internet, it’s also at risk of being deleted, or the Internet could go through a worldwide shutdown and all of the information could be lost. Books would be our last resort for information. Libraries are also very important for those who want to learn and read but can’t afford access to the Internet. Not only that, but books are also a comfort to have. It feels as if you are holding the information or the story in your hands and not reading it off of an intangible website that anyone can access at any given time. In conclusion, libraries are still extremely important for a number of reasons.
