Info for 8th grade parents
Coronado High invites 8th grade students and parents to open house on Wednesday, February 27th at 6:30 pm in the main theater of CHS.
Iin order to maximize student achievement and minimize course and schedule changes, administrators, teachers, and counselors will be using data, performance, and evidence of effort and motivation to recommend students for honors and AP courses with prerequisites. We invite you to open dialogue with your child about planning a course schedule aligned with areas of career interest, passion, and motivation, while considering the importance of balancing challenges in the course load so that healthy life balance and time to pursue extracurricular and family and community activities are possible.
If you have questions about your child’s preparation for specific honors and AP courses, please contact your child’s current content teacher and/or counselor. In general, we DO NOT RECOMMEND enrolling in summer online courses to accelerate or skip to a next level course at CHS in the fall.

We look forward to helping you start your transition to high school.

Info for 6th grade parents
On Tuesday, April 9th, your child will be taking part in a program called "Drug Store," which is put together by Coronado SAFE and held at the Coronado Middle School.
The goal of the Drug Store Program is to engage our children to critically think about making positive, healthy lifestyle choices. The Drug Store is a dramatic, experiential program that takes students on a journey through the natural consequences of poor choices with regard to drugs and alcohol. More than 300 local sixth grade students from Coronado Middle School, Sacred Heart Parish School and Christ Church Day School go through this program. This community-wide event involves more than 100 volunteers including parents, DEA agents, police officers, EMTs, lawyers, judges, therapists, ministers, and more!
To learn more, click here to see Coronado SAFE's site about the Drug Store event.
We need your help to make this event a success! There are two ways to get involved:
- Fill out the volunteer form. Please email the form back to volunteer coordinators, Sally Harvey (zsally@hotmail.com) or Janet Thoms (janetthoms@gmail.com), or turn it into the CMS front office.
