Dear Parents / Carers,
Welcome back from half term. We have had a lovely week in school this week as the weather continues to improve and the nights are starting to get lighter. The start of spring is always a good way to lift spirits and renew our enthusiasm for learning new things. The children have worked very hard this week and seem renewed also which has been great.
Please can I remind parents who drop off and collect in cars about parking respectfully in the local area being mindful of residents' driveways and corners of road junctions. It is also not permitted for parents to drop off in the bus lay-by. I do appreciate that the area around school gets very busy at these times but not that the weather is improving, why not park a little further away and walk the last bit into school?
Thank you to those parents that attended this week's coffee morning in the hall. We were joined by Mrs Westfeld, Mrs Bamforth and also Mrs Middleton, our Chair of Governors. It was great to hear your views and be able to chat informally. The next Parents' Coffee Morning will be held in the school hall on Friday 21st April from 8:45 and will be attended by Mrs Harrison and our Sendco, Mrs Bembridge. There will also be a school governor joining us. I look forward to seeing you there.
Have a lovely weekend,
Karen Williams

KS1 who have worked really hard on their Numbots this week. For the children who are practising, we are seeing a real difference in their maths learning. Congratulations to Harry S, Alistair G, Jacob P, Jaxon and Charlotte C who proudly took home their certificates this week. Well done everyone!
Just a reminder that we are expecting KS2 children to spend at least half an hour working on their multiplication skills during the week. Again, it makes a big difference in class and supports children to access the rest of the maths curriculum. Congratulations to Bea O, Oliver G and George S who were our TT Rockstars of the week. Well done!

World Book Day
We are really looking forward to spending the day celebrating books on Thursday 2nd March. Children are welcome to come to school dressed as their favourite character and to bring their favourite book to share with their class.
In the run up to World Book Day, we are doing an Extreme Reading Challenge. We would like children to get a photo of themselves reading their books in unusual and out-of-the-ordinary places. An example could be up a climbing frame or on a trampoline (being mindful of being safe and checking with an adult first). The more creative – the better! We would love for families to get involved as well so please feel free to join in. All of the pictures will be added to what we hope will be a fantastic display of our children reading in a whole host of weird and wonderful places. Photos can be emailed into school, or sent as a hard copy.
On the Monday of the same week (27th February), there will be an Usbourne book fair on the playground where you will be able to purchase some fantastic books for your children. We receive a percentage of sales in the form of new books for the school, and have been delighted to be able to order some lovely books for our children following previous fairs.
Parent/carers phonics workshop for reception and year 1 parents
On Thursday 2nd March at 15:30, we will be holding a phonics workshop for parents/carers of children in reception and year 1. During the workshop, we will be explaining the terminology that we use with children during the teaching of phonics, and giving you information about how children progress through their phonics learning and how you can support them at home. If you need childcare in order to attend the session, we will have staff available to look after your child/children during the workshop. Please could you let us know prior to the workshop if you need to leave your child with us.

Tadcaster Junior Hockey
Although hockey season is reaching the business end of the season, here at Tadcaster trying to build on the great turnout for our junior training before Christmas and expand our junior section. The next 10week period for junior training at Tadcaster Hockey Club will start on Wednesday 1st March 2023 at Tadcaster Grammar School from 6 until 7pm, which covers players from ages 5 up to 16, split by ages for training purposes.
We shall be running this 10 week booking in two sections, five weeks prior to Easter, a two week break over Easter and then the remaining five weeks after. This session is once more charged at £30 per child for the entire 10 weeks. There is a £5 discount for siblings down to a minimum payment of £20, e.g. first child pays £30, second child pays £25, and any child thereafter pays £20.
Sticks can be provided, however we recommend hockey shinpads (football shinpads at a push, but hockey shinpads offer better protection for ankles), astroturf boots; note not studded football boots as these are not allowed on the pitch, although trainers may be sufficient, and a gum shield. Please ask for advice on purchases if you feel unsure before buying, better to ask and buy the correct thing than not and get the incorrect thing.
Club kit is not required for training and unlikely to be in the future. Games against other clubs will be different, and we may be looking to provide a kit on the day for such events, although we would be interested to hear if anyone knows of companies/people who would be interested in sponsoring our juniors to assist in the purchase of kit.
Please can you complete the Google Form here to indicate your intention to send your child to Junior Training from the 1st March. The returns from these forms will be used for email distribution regarding future club events and for sending bank and payment details for the sessions once received.
