Thomas Jefferson's earliest memory was being handed to a slave on horseback and carried 50 miles away to his new home. His father also died when Thomas was at the young age of 14.

Why he was influential

Thomas Jefferson was one of the founding fathers of our nation, the main author of the Declaration of Independence, and the third president of the United States. He was also a spokesman for democracy and embraced the principles of republicanism.
