Early Fall 2017
News from the Superintendent's Office
Darryll McCall, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Wachusett Regional School District
Opening Day - August 29, 2017
The district ushered in a successful opening day in Wachusett. Principals, teachers and staff welcomed everyone into their buildings and helped students and families get settled in. Superintendent McCall visited all of the schools and was pleased to see the classrooms filled with students once again. The district is fortunate to have a dedicated group of educators who helped the students maneuver through their first day back in school with support and kindness.
Message to Staff - Opening Day 2017
On Monday, August 28th, Superintendent McCall had the opportunity to speak to over 700 members of the staff and faculty at the High School Auditorium. This year, the district welcomed over 30 new teachers across all schools and grade levels.
At the close of his remarks, the superintendent discussed the importance of diversity in all schools.
...I would like to share some thoughts with you regarding the recent incidents in Charlottesville, Virginia. Executive Director of the Massachusetts Association for School Superintendents, Tom Scott, reminds all district leaders that our schools are founded on the principle that diversity, in all forms, is always welcome. As educators, we are committed to providing opportunities for equity and inclusion that celebrate and embrace our differences. This will enable our future leaders to value all members of society to uphold our democratic ideals. Our district’s vision statement asserts:
The Wachusett Regional School District will foster a vibrant educational community in which all students will realize their highest potential and become responsible and productive citizens.
As the educational leader of this district, I am looking to work in unison with all of you to build a stronger community of learners that shun hateful words and bigoted behaviors. We need to remember that we set the examples for our students of what it means to be a responsible and productive citizen. There is so much good that we must honor and celebrate around us.
We are, and will forever be, committed to supporting all of our students, staff and families in Wachusett.
WRHS Introduces the 1:1 Chromebook Initiative
This is the first year that the school district is undertaking the implementation of a 1:1 Chromebook Initiative at Wachusett Regional High School. Superintendent McCall was fortunate to assist with the handing out of Chromebooks at WRHS, at which time over 400 devices were passed out over two days. Students and parents expressed gratitude and support for this initiative. For more information on the new Chromebook 1:1 Program, click here or refer to The Landmark article.
