Myrtlewood Elementary School

We ROAR: Respectful, Organized, Authentic, and Responsible

Note from the Principal's Desk

Happy New Year!

Thank you for all of your patience and collaboration with us to make this a successful semester for all our students. I want to extend a huge amount of gratitude to the entire Myrtlewood students, parents, volunteers, community members and faculty and staff. Their amazing dedication and hard work to ensure that all of our students are able to access learning, and in a positive, safe, and healthy environment is unmatched.

Communication is essential and we strive to connect to our students, parents and families, and community each and every day. We will continue reaching out to you with robo-calls and text messages through School Status and our messaging system, BlackBoard. We also encourage you to visit our website and follow our social pages including Facebook and Instagram or announcements, information, and celebrations.

As always, we wish to express our sincere gratitude toward our entire school community. We would not be the amazing school that we are without the help and support of all of you. Thank you and may you all have a safe, happy, and prosperous new year!

Renovation Updates

Myrtlewood is in the process of renovations. Because of that, we have some teachers and staff that have to relocate learning spaced within the school building. We will also have construction around the perimeter of the school building. They have been informed of the high traffic times; however, we are asking for your patience during morning drop off and afternoon dismissal. The good news is... we will have a renovated school building.

Read, Learn, and Inspire with Mrs. Christie Swinney

I am so excited to be at Myrtlewood for my forth year as the Library Media Specialist. Prior to being in the library, I was a 1st-2nd grade classroom teacher for 12 years. I love being able to teach every child in the school, especially about reading and books. I am married to my husband of 20 years and we have a 12 year old son. We love traveling and going on adventures as a family. Happy New Year!

School Status

Communicating with parents is a priority. Tuscaloosa County School educators will use SchoolStatus and as a result, have strong partnerships with our parents. The SchoolStatus platform is designed to give our teachers what they need to help their students be more successful. Our teachers will be able to communicate with parents. Please look for a message from our teachers regarding this tool.
