Check for Responsiveness

Tap the shoulder and shout, "Are you ok?"

  • You may flick the bottom of the foot

Other Instances To Watch Out For

  • Conscious choking-child (cannot cough, speak or breathe)
  • Conscious choking-infant (cannot cough, speak or breathe)
  • Unconscious choking- child and infant (chest does not rise with rescue breaths)
  • CPR-child and infant (no breathing)
  • AED-child and infant: younger than age 8 weighing less than 55 pounds (no breathing)
  • Controlling external bleeding
  • Burns
  • Poisoning
  • Seizure
