Still Going Strong
Madonna's career continues after 35 years in the music industry.
Life and Times
Madonna didn’t have an easy life, and she used these obstacles and struggles to become one of the strongest and most successful musicians in the music industry. When Madonna was five, her mother died of breast cancer. This led Madonna to be strong and outspoken, two characteristics that you will see in her music. In an interview, she stated “Mother’s are there to teach you manners and rules, and I certainly didn’t learn any of those while I was young.” When her father remarried, her stepmother was very strict with her. But Madonna, rather than listening to her step mother, rebelled against her and this traditional upbringing. She knew she wanted to make something of herself. And that is just what she did.
Although Madonna was kind of a rebel, who didn’t like to follow the rules of her house, she was also very disciplined and a perfectionist. She was a straight A student and a talented dancer. She showed that whenever she put her mind to something she would succeed. And succeed she did.
Her Music Career
Madonna used all of these characteristics from her youth to become one of pop’s most talented musicians. She went on American Bandstand in 1984 and didn’t look back. In her first ten years in the music industry she had 21 hits in the top ten. She had sold 70 million albums internationally. She was especially popular for her music, but also her risky behavior and her performances. She was an exceptional entertainer and she was constantly trying to seek a reaction from her audience. Oftentimes this would get her in trouble, with a variety of companies banning her videos or stopping their endorsements, but this only made people want to learn more about her.
In 2004 she was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. In 2008 she was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was so popular, with so many awards, that in 2008 she was listed as the World’s Wealthiest Female Musician.
Inspiration to Others
Inspiration to Others
Madonna became a trendsetter in fashion and performance and today has inspired many artists. Brittany Spears, Katie Perry, and others have also tried to capture her style and performance. They try to capture her pushing the limits on all that she does, and like Madonna, these women are trying to push social boundaries so they too can be trendsetters of the time.
The music world will never be the same again, now that Madonna has taken the stage. For the past 35 years, Madonna has been making music, making history, and seeking reactions from her audience as she inspires a whole new generation of musicians.
