Cultural Traits

The official languages of Pakistan are Urdu and English, however the majority of people speak other languages.

Islam is the main religion.

There are high-income, middle-income, and a large number of low-income persons throughout the country.

The status of women is high.

They have different marriage traditions.

Pakistan's Economy and Politics

Pakistan is a very poor country that relies on foreign loans and grants. An estimated 35 percent live below the poverty line. Major industries of Pakistan include textiles, cement, fertilizer, steel, sugar, electric goods, and shipbuilding. Trade partners include the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates. Forty-eight percent of workers are in the service sector, twenty-seven percent are in industry, and twenty-five percent are in agriculture.


The government of Pakistan includes a Prime Minister, a President, and a Parliament. The Prime Minister is the head of the government, and the President, who is elected by the legislator, is head of the state. The greatest problem in Pakistan today is drug use. Branches of the military are the army, navy, air force, civil armed forces, and national guard.
