Global Learning Presentation
Many staff shared their enjoyment of the Global Learning presentation by Stough Elementary teacher, Katie Gourley. If you are interested in a copy of her presentation, please let me know.
Follow Up for DreamBox Staff Development:
For those that were unable to be at the Friday Early Release, please review and become familiar with Dreambox via their overview website. We will alert you when student names have been uploaded to homerooms so that you can start introducing the program to your students. To become familiar with the program be sure to go back over the Dreambox website and share the site with your students. Using the SMARTBoard would be a good activity to help students become comfortable with Dreambox.
Our expectations are that staff and students become familiar with the program as soon as possible and put it to use. In order to get accurate data and to become comfortable with the program, students should use the program at least an hour per week. It takes approximately 20 minutes to sign on and use the program. You might consider earlybird students using it when they arrive in the morning, in centers tied to your lesson, or as a homework assignment. Our hope is that between now and the middle of June by using it as prescribed by the training rep., we can make a wise decision on a digital math program for next year.
Our training rep. Stacey Shumake, suggested that we have students use the program at least 3 weeks before formal assignments to individuals are given. Stacey will be returning for the May 11 staff meeting so that we can review and learn how to use the acquired data for our use and to prescribe assignments.
Label Personal Items:
Thank you for those of you that have gotten the word out to label items! It helps! Please keep reminding students and parents in your messages. One student's coat had duct tape in it this week!
How to Handle Being Absent:
1) Enter the absence in the system.
2) Call the school and leave a message on the main line OF THE SCHOOL. You can call at ANYTIME and leave a message.
3) Make sure someone knows of your sub. plans or they are clearly displayed on your desk.
4) Make sure your substitute has a class roster, attendance sheet, and other items needed.
5) Follow up the absence with a LEAVE FORM within two days.
6) If your absence is for anything other than sick, fill out the leave form AHEAD OF TIME.
Emergency Plans:
If you do not have emergency plans for your classroom, there is no better time like the present to complete them. Each teacher should have a WEEK of plans ready and available for a substitute. The plans should be clear, easy to follow, and any copies or other information should be completed or listed. If you already have plans turned into the office, go through your folder so that you they will be ready for next year. We will turn in plans for the 2017-2018 school year at the end of this year. That'll be one less thing you have to do in July!
Teacher and Student Survey:
Thank you for completing the teacher survey for the County. We have 100% participation, and we appreciate you all getting it done so quickly. Please help your students complete the student survey by the deadline, as well. Why? Because PUE is the BEST!!!
