Hello, Pirate family!

Happy Friday!

We had a blast celebrating our Kona Ice and Pirates Rock October winners this week! Scroll down to see some of our fun photos from the week. Just a reminder that students DO NOT have school on Friday, November 4. Your student's teacher has their Parent Teacher Conference sign-up ready for you in their newsletter. Feel free to sign up for a virtual or in person conference that best suits your family's schedule. Be safe, and have a great weekend. Go Pirates!

New Information

Fall Class Parties

Hi Compass Families!

Fall class parties will be held at Compass on Friday, October 28th. Please see below for details regarding volunteer availability and donations for snacks and supplies.
A special THANK YOU to all the parent volunteers that have been assisting with planning and organizing this event!

Compass PTA

In order to coordinate all the items we need, PTA will be purchasing the supplies and snacks needed to make our Fall Parties great! We hope this takes the hassle out of shopping for you and allows us to make sure each class has exactly what they need. With that said, we've put together the sign up below for anyone wishing to help contribute to these classroom expenses. We truly appreciate any donations made.
Funds collected will go to supporting this and future class parties, as well as other student activities and events throughout the year. If you like to contribute you can send check or cash to the school or you can send money to our Venmo account @Compass-PTA.

Snacks and Supplies Sign Up:

This year each classroom is allowed to have 5 volunteers during the Fall classroom parties. Volunteers will be responsible for assisting with set-up, games and crafts, and clean-up. Please note, you can only volunteer for one classroom during this time and there can only be one family member per classroom (this also means no younger siblings can attend at this time). Also all visitors must be registered in the Hall Pass system 3 days prior to the event.

Parent Volunteers:

Carpooling is highly encouraged!
Parents that attend may leave with their child at the end of the party, your teacher will have a check out sheet available.

PTA Book Fair

Dear Parents and Families:

Get ready! This year's Book Fair is going to be epic! We've turned up the volume with more fun, more choices and more excitement, so kids will arrive curious and leave bolder, prouder, and stronger than ever before. Every dollar you spend will benefit our school directly. Here's what you need to know about our upcoming fair:

You can sign up for Book Fair eWallet, a convenient digital payment account, so your child can shop the Fair cash-free. Grandparents, friends, and others can contribute to the eWallet to help build your home library.

Save these dates and view our school's Book Fair site:

  • Fair Dates: 10/24 - 11/4
  • Family Night at the Book Fair: 11/2 and 11/3 from 4:30-8:00pm

There is a Leader in Me!

Compass Elementary utilizes the Leader in Me framework as our school’s leadership initiative. A goal of the Family and Community Action team here at Compass is to provide additional education to families about the 8 different habits that your student(s) are taught to empower them to lead their own learning. Each month, your child’s teacher will provide education in their weekly newsletter about a habit for the month. Along with the habit for the month, there will be a family worksheet for each student to complete with their family. If a student brings that worksheet back to school, your child will earn a prize donated by Nodaway Bank to our very own Compass PTA!

Leader in Me founder, Steven Covey, once said, “Family is the most important organization in the world.” We appreciate your partnership is building healthy, happy kids at school, at home, and in the community!

Open Positions at PCR-3

The school year has started, but we still have some openings across our District, including bus drivers, custodians, paraprofessionals, and lunch monitors. If interested in joining our team, click here to apply! Specifically at Compass Elementary, we have openings for a Lunch Monitor and Custodian.

Birthday Treats/Celebrations

We believe that birthdays are an important time in a child’s life. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or a store or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class.
