Ms. Villalobos provided updates on the pandemic (available in the video and slide deck from Kristina and I) and the HUHS learning plan (see the information from HUHS below).
The 2021/22 Academic Calendar was reviewed for the first time. The current proposal has the first day of school listed as September 1st with September 6th off for Labor Day. Two sets of evening conferences in October along with two professional learning days are currently recommended. Trimester 1 is scheduled to end just prior to Thanksgiving, with school being held only that Monday and Tuesday for students. Winter break is scheduled for Dec. 23 - 31, with a return to school on Monday, January 3rd. Trimester 2 conferences are scheduled in the evening the last week in January and first week in February, again with two professional learning days scheduled. Presidents Day (Feb. 21) and March 7th are scheduled professional learning days with both CESA 6 and Hartford Area Schools. Spring Break is scheduled for March 28 - April 1, and a mid-Trimester break is scheduled for April 15 - 18. Memorial Day is May 30, and the final day of school is scheduled for Friday, June 3rd. This will be reviewed again prior to approval in either late January or early February.
Ms. Villalobos discussed some delays with Educator Effectiveness and the need for a potential waiver. This is due to complications surrounding the pandemic. The process involves a public hearing and then a vote by the board.
Ms. Shattuck reviewed several plans along with preliminary parent feedback regarding Summer School programming for 2020/21. Current feedback is to have a strong academic focus with some enrichment options, summer school to be hosted in July, and three weeks of courses for three hours daily. A survey will be going out to parents and staff early this month.
Ms. Howe reviewed the district's 2019-20 Audit Report. She shared several key points with the board members, and she and Ms. Villalobos discussed focus areas for growth.
Ms. Howe reviewed assignments within Fund Balance. She made recommendations to the board regarding amounts to set aside and purpose for each of these. Completing this will position the district to make progress on the continuous improvement action plan, will be alignment with WASBOs requests of districts, and will assure funding is set aside for each of the district's projects/initiatives.
Action Items Approved:
- Act 143 Safety Audit and Review/Lock Down Drill
- Updates to the District Safety Plan
- CIP Projects for 2021
- 403(b) Matching Funds Proposal
- Service agreement between HHASD and Saint A, Inc. for individual/family mental health counseling services
