Ms. Hannah's Class
January 11-15
No AFTERNOON Monday, January 11!
January 11-15
We are starting our new unit! Boxes, Buildings and Roads. This week we will be exploring "What can we do with boxes?" and "What are characteristics of boxes?" If you have cereal boxes or other small boxes that you would like to donate, please bring them into school! Also, please bring a picture of the front of your house! We will be making a 3D map later in the unit of Papillion/LaVista and would love to incorporate your children's homes!
We will read:
- Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson
- Thank You Bear by Greg Foley
- Not a Box by Antoinette Portis
- The Birthday Box by Leslie Patricelli
Our vote questions (one per day) will be:
- Have you ever made anything from a box?
- Have you ever seen a box bigger than you?
- What shape is a box? (square or triangle)
- What would you put in a box? (Puppy or pasta)
- Is a box a flat shape or pop out shape?
Language Group January 11-15
We will make a choice of the shape (circle, heart, triangle) where we will place our picture. We will read the book Wake Up, Wake Up! by Brian and Rebecca Wildsmith and then retell the sequence of animals. We will review the nursery rhymes "Pat-A-Cake", "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe", and "Hickory, Dickory, Dock".
Spring Home Visits/Conferences
Dear Parents,
It’s time to get together and talk about your preschooler’s progress and development. Face to face communication provides a great opportunity for us to build a partnership between home and school. This semester I will be offering the opportunity for home visits. Within our district, a home visit is the preferred method of communication, but if you’d rather, I’m offering parent teacher conferences here at school.
If you choose a home visit, they will take place AT YOUR HOME on over a few different days in February.
If you prefer a conference, they will be AT SCHOOL on Thursday, February 11th.
If neither date works for you and you would like to meet, please email me to set up a date/time.
Please sign up by Thursday, January 14th to secure your time.
Kindergarten!
Dear Parents: If you have a child who is old enough to attend Kindergarten this next year (they need to be 5 on or before July 31), you will need to complete online enrollment for Kindergarten. Please feel free to do this as soon as possible, as that will allow the District to begin to get a count of the children who will be in Kindergarten in the Fall.
How Do You Enroll?
· All students must be enrolled online.
· Please go to www.plcschools.org
· Click on “Parents” at top right
· On Left side, click on “Enrolling in PLC Schools”
· Then follow Online Enrollment instructions
Kindergarten Round Up Dates will be available after we return from Break. You will be asked to provide current proof of residency at Round Up. Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions! Have a restful break and enjoy your family!

Special Attendance...
Dear Parents: We are quickly approaching the end of our first Semester of preschool! If you have a child who will be transitioning to Kindergarten and you are considering any attendance options other than your child’s neighborhood school, it is important that you learn about transfer options. There are specific deadlines for applying for special attendance, and I wanted to share a resource with you, should you desire more information. Go to our District website (www.plcschools.org) and click on the “Parents” button at the top of the screen. Next, click on “Changing a Child’s School or District” on the left-hand side of the screen. You will now see all of the information regarding transfer options. Please note: the preschool team is not involved in the special attendance process. You will need to contact Central Office as indicated on the website should you have further questions. We simply want to make you aware of the deadlines that will quickly approach after we return from Winter Break and provide the website information should you have an interest in this topic.
I hope you and your family have a restful and relaxing Winter Break! We look forward to seeing our preschoolers in 2016! As always, please feel free to contact me with questions regarding early childhood. Sincerely, Kristy Feden, Supervisor of Early Childhood (kfeden@paplv.org/402-514-3242)
