12/7/2018 Your Weekly Update for Mayfield Intermediate
Manassas Christmas Parade
Congratulations to Mayfield Intermediate School for our 3rd Place finish in the float competition for the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade. Ms. Torres and Ms. Tibbs did a wonderful job working with our students to put together our float. Ms. Whitaker was a phenomenal driver for our float as well.
We collaborated with Volunteer Prince William and helped them with their Un-Trim-a-Tree event that collects toys for kids in the Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William area. During the parade our students collected donated gifts from people in attendance. Those gifts will be distributed to families in the area during the holiday season.
6th Grade Choir Concert
There was a terrific concert that was performed on Tuesday, December 4th! Our choir from Mayfield collaborated with the choir from Baldwin Intermediate and put on a tremendous show for the 350 people in the audience. This was another reason to celebrate Mayfield Intermediate School! Thank you Mrs. Sweeney for preparing our students for this performance.
Interim Reports are Coming Home Today
We are mid way through the second quarter of school. That means that interim reports will be going home with students today. This is a great time to talk with your child and review how they are doing and make adjustments where needed. If you have any concerns, make sure to set up a time to meet with your child's teacher.
Instructional Focus: Project Lead the Way
This week I got to observe our 3 wonderful STEM teachers, Mrs. Cornicelli, Mr. Hinton, and Mr. Brungard, working with each other to provide our students an awesome learning experience through Project Lead the Way. The students from all three classes were working together in our cafeteria. The students were collaborating with one another and building gliders.

Instructional Focus: Great Teaching and Learning
I had the chance to stop in Ms. Urban and Mrs. Brown's class during the week and I was so impressed with the teaching and learning that was occurring. There was a collaborative chatter in the air and Ms. Urban was working with a small group of students in the reading corner. Mrs. Brown was working with students completing iReady and other tasks. Students were independent learners and taking ownership of their learning. Great job Ms. Urban and Mrs. Brown's class!
Educational Leaders: Mayfield's Custodial Team
Educational Leaders within a school come in many different forms. This week I would like to highlight our custodial team at Mayfield Intermediate School as educational leaders within our community. Our custodial team, comprised of 7 individuals, are responsible for how beautiful Mayfield is. They help our students acheive academic success by making sure that the learning environment is ready every single day. Our custodians arrive at 6:30 AM everyday and leave at 10:00 PM. They help set up for important events like our International Night and Choir Concerts. They also are here to greet students with a friendly smile. Let's make sure that we celebrate our custodians and everything that they do in order to make our students successful!
