The Arbor Home crews at Maple Trail continue to pour slabs but the company doing the sewer work on our property have not worked all week. I am not sure if they will work next week. Please remember that one person on recess duty needs to be over in the area of the construction equipment. While it is not sitting on the playground, we want to make sure our students don't stray too far.
Valerie's Vision
Behind the Scenes
When obtaining my administrator's license, one item that I was told (and stuck with me) was: "Make sure your office staff, cafeteria staff, and custodial staff are on your team. These are the people that can either make or break a school."
I know I write a lot of visions about teaching and the impact that teachers have on our students, but I want to take this week to share a little love with our support staff, specifically our custodians. Last weekend, and this coming weekend we are facing challenging weather. In order to make our school open and functioning, there is so much work behind the scenes that has to be done. Not only do our parking lots need to be clear, but snow on our bus zones, sidewalks, car pickup and drop off areas have to be taken care of. Additionally salt has to be spread. Sometimes it seems like a never ending battle. Our custodial staff takes pride in making sure that we have a safe, functional school. Without their extra effort and work, we would have a lot more students and staff slipping and falling, trudging through snow, and creating a mess inside to be cleaned up.
This weekend, when we get some more snow, be thankful that you may only have to clear off your driveway. Be sure to show a little support to our staff who have to take care of the school. We definitely couldn't do this without their help.
"School Custodian: The quiet hero of the school. They are always the first to arrive each day, clean up messes no one dares to touch and befriends everyone that passes by."- Teresa Kwant
