Student-Led Conferences (6th Grade): Monday, February 13

Students at Hidden Valley Middle School have curated pieces of academic work throughout the year during their weekly block of advisory. On February 13th, sixth grade students will take part in Student Led-Conferences (SLCs) with their parents or guardians. Student-Led Conferences provide a unique opportunity for students to highlight academic work that they are most proud of from the current school year while demonstrating evidence of their Opportunity Ready Skills. This year, we asked our sixth-grade students to focus on three Opportunity Ready Skills—collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.

Student-Led Conferences will be held in classrooms with 6th grade teachers. Students will have 20 minutes to lead their parent or guardian through their portfolio and explain how the artifacts they selected demonstrate their Opportunity Ready Skills. After the conclusion of the SLC, we ask that parents and guardians proceed to the library where they will be asked to take a brief survey reflecting on the experience.

We are proud of our students for their dedication and work toward this exciting learning opportunity. We ask that you join us on February 13th, between 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. with your student. Please reserve a time and location for your student’s SLC using the Sign-Up Genius.

Schools to Watch

We are excited to share the news that Hidden Valley Middle School has been redesignated as a School to Watch! HVMS is one of approximately 40 middle schools across the state to hold this prestigious title based on our alignment with best practices in relation to the middle grades. As a School to Watch, we will be presenting at both the Virginia Middle School Association Conference in Harrisonburg, VA this spring and the National Schools to Watch Conference in Washington, D.C. this summer.

SOAR Card Recipients

Students can receive SOAR cards at HVMS by going above and beyond our school-wide expectations of being safe, organized, accountable, and respectful. Our entire matrix of school-wide expectations is posted to the right. We will be distributing SOAR cards to students and parents/guardians by email, and recipients will be entered into monthly drawings for prizes.
