PARENT MID-YEAR DATA TALK BY PRINCIPAL SMITH

Feb. 6th @ 6:00 PM in the Media Center

ALL PARENTS INVITED TO THIS IMPORTANT MEETING

FULTON COUNTY SCHOOLS MAKE-UP DAY

Feb. 16, 2018

Note: ALL FCS will now have school on 2/16/2017

to make up for the school closing during Hurricane Irma

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Happy New Year Parents,

On Monday, January 8th, we are looking forward to welcoming back our students. Our teachers and staff started back on Thursday, and we are ready to take on 2018 as Champions of Learning! We entreat our parents to join us for our New Year’s goals. In 2018, we have much to accomplish and many accolades to celebrate.

Let’s start out with some good news and gratitude. The Fulton County budget crisis has come to an end! The hiring and spending freeze has been lifted. Thank you to our parents and the community for your support through this budget crunch. Also, a heartfelt thank you to the families of Edenwilde who have supported our school with snack drives and the "Shirt & Tie" drive. The “Shirt & Tie” drive brings a college and career mindset into the building for some of our young men who are striving to "dress the part" one day a week.

Next, let’s discuss our accolades and accomplishments for this semester. We have nearly 14 weeks before the Georgia Milestones so all Titans will be gearing up. Parents can support the GA Milestones at home to support by encouraging students to spend 20 minutes reading each night. Please make reading a priority, and I promise we will see the positive results in May.

Here is a list of upcoming events:

  • The i-READY Challenge ends January 15th and the prize drawing will be on the 18th of January. Thank you for having your child work on literacy over the break.
  • There will be a "School-Wide Student Data Talk" on January 26th during WINN to support our AVID mission. The purpose is to encourage students to take ownership of their own learning.
  • I invite all parents to attend our Parent Mid-Year Data Talk” on February 6th. We will take a close look at your child's current standing, and ensure he/she is on track by strategizing ways for your child to exceed on the Georgia Milestones.
  • The Breakfasts of Excellence” is the upgraded version of the Honor Roll Breakfasts because we have added additional ways to recognize student excellence. We are looking forward to seeing more students and parents at these celebrations.

Bundle up and be safe! The Hembree Springs parking lot will no longer be available as of January 8th. Parents, we need your help with compliance, along with your patience and understanding. This change is for the safety of students. Send your Titans to school in their warm coats, gloves, and hats. Make sure your child is dressed weather-appropriate, especially for those waiting at bus stops. If you or a family you know needs warm outerwear, please contact one of our counselors, Traci Dease (dease@fultonschools.org) or Will Jones (jonesw3@fultonschools.org).

See on Monday, dressed warmly and ready to learn!

The contest, which will run until Monday, January 29th, will be judged by a panel including Atlanta Dream president, Theresa Wenzel, to choose contest winners in three categories – Elementary, Middle School, and High School. Each winner will receive tickets to the first 2018 Dream game, be recognized in a game and will receive a school visit from the franchise. Titans Got Talent Expo - 4/13

The PTSA and the Drama Club are proud to present “Titans’ Got Talent!” for a One-Night-Only show on Friday, April 13th! GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER because the Elkins Pointe Talent Expo is coming to a Stage near you … this is a Talent "Showcase", NOT a contest, so don't be shy and join in on the FUN!

Talent/Act submission forms will be available soon in Titan Talk and on the PTSA website.

Students wanting to participate will be required to turn-in this "Act Proposal" Form on Feb. 21& 22 at the after-school meetings to go over the details of the act and what will be needed on stage for the performance. In addition, if you have dreams of being the Show’s Emcee, announcing each act with your own flair, you will have the opportunity to audition for that role at the Feb 21& 22 meetings.

So, please start brainstorming what talents you would like to share on stage with your Elkins Pointe community at the Talent Expo, and have your proposal ready for submission by February 21st. Any questions, please direct to Jennifer Rodman, jcrodman@yahoo.com.

Attention Elkins Pointe Parents: SPINE ALERT!

The annual Scoliosis Screening Event for EPMS students is coming up very soon, on Feb. 2nd. Please sign up to be part of the screening team here.

This is a really important event because the ages of 11-14 are the prime time for identification of Scoliosis of the spine. Early detection and treatment are the keys to reversing Scoliosis so it is not a life-long problem. Professional nurses and nursing students from Kennesaw run the event, but every year we need parent volunteers to be the "first eyes." Parent Screeners act as primary checkers to make the process move smoothly and quickly for the students. With this important event only 3 weeks away, the PTSA is in desperate need of Scoliosis Screeners for a 3 1/2 hour window on Feb. 2nd from 11:45 am to 3:00 pm. Please see the SignupGenius below if you can sign up as a volunteer. Bonus: We will feed you lunch, snacks, and coffee during the day!

If you were certified last year through the Training Course, you DO NOT NEED to take it again. However, if you have not taken the training course within the last 18 months, you will NEED to attend -- it is a painless 1 1/2 hours on Jan 24th, and then you will be certified for 2 years. Please consider volunteering your time for this very worthwhile service event that EPMS provides to its students. Please, direct questions to Jennifer Rodman: jcrodman@yahoo.com
