Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
The Autobiography
My name is rough endoplasmic recticulum, and this is my story.
I am a very important organell. My job is to make, package, and ship proteins through the cell. I am only found in eukaryotic cells, aka animal and plant cells. I am called "rough'' because I am dotted in protein-creating ribozomes. I am very important, without me my cell wouldn't have the amount of protein it needs.
Not only am I a hard worker, but I also look great while I work! I have a beautiful maze-like mebrane lined with stylish ribosomes. I surround the nucleus mostly, but I am spread throughout the entire cell.
What do I do? I do a bunch!
My job is to make and transport proteins. The ribosomes that line my outer membrane make the proteins. I then decide where to ship the proteins and ship the proteins to the different parts of the cell through my membrane. I get to decide where I find my proteins fit to go.
Why am I so important?
Without me no organelles would get their proper amount of proteins.
