PUPIL FREE DAY
FRIDAY 25th SEPTEMBER
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Welcome to the last newsletter for Term 3! What a way to finish the term today with our Year 1's, 3's and 5's performing the dance creations from working with the Make A Move Performance Program this term, followed by our traditional SFOA Community Lunch in the beautiful warmth and sunshine!
CATHOLIC DAY - FRI 25th SEPTEMBER
Tomorrow, Friday 25th September is our CATHOLIC DAY. Every Catholic School in WA is provided an additional Pupil Free Day in recognition of the time and application Catholic School teachers utilise evangelising the message of the Catholic Church. The extra commitments on Catholic School teachers is recognised by providing this additional day. As such, there will be no school tomorrow and no staff on site. Please contact CAMP Australia if you need to make arrangements for holiday care.
CONGRATULATIONS MICAH BERGMANN 2B
Our very own Micah Bergmann in 2B has been awarded top prize in the annual Rotary International Bricktober Competition for his lego creation! Micah submitted an entry in the 7-12 year old boys category where he was required to design a lego creation that would fit into a shoebox. Attached is a picture of Micah with his winning entry. I look forward to one day seeing Micah on LegoMasters! If your child has succeeded in a passion within our community, please let me know - we love celebrating the achievements of our children.
MAKE A MOVE PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
Throughout this term, the Year 1's, 3's and 5's have been fostering their creativity with the help and guidance of Megan Baronas, a qualified Primary School teacher and dance instructor. The performances from the children this morning reflected their hard work and creativity and was a culmination of all their efforts. Let's not also forget our brilliant Kindy children who performed their dance item yesterday afternoon. Whilst we were not able to hold our usual Grandparent's Day due to numbers and restrictions, the dance performances were a fitting way to end our term. Thank you to all the parents who came to separate sessions to ensure we met COVID restrictions. Next term, our PP, 2's, 4's and 6's, will have their turn to let their creative juices flow with Miss Baronas!
SFoA COMMUNITY LUNCH
We were very fortunate to have our end of term community lunch today thanks to the P&F members and other volunteers who prepared our sausage sizzle lunch orders. It takes an army of volunteers to provide this valuable community initiative, and with all the disruptions over the the year, today was a great chance to get together and celebrate the end of term.
BUNNINGS SAUSAGE SIZZLE - MINDARIE
Speaking of Sausage Sizzles, last Sunday was our annual Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser. Again, a committed group of volunteers prepared, cooked and manned the bbq in order to raise money for our school. A special thanks to Stephenie Kunder, Claire Duddy, Tammy Jones, Renee Ashworth and Rose Canzirri for doing a lot of the 'heavy lifting' with this fundraiser. Although foot traffic wasn't what we'd normally expect for the location we had, it was a worthwhile activity and greatly appreciated.
CYBERSAFETY & SOCIAL MEDIA
As we approach school holidays and the prospect of children spending time on devices over the next two weeks, it is a good time to refresh our understanding and knowledge of some of the more popular applications children will be accessing. These include both social media and gaming apps. To support parents, handy Online Safety Guides have been posted to our school Facebook page throughout this year. These can also be found on our school website under 'Parent Information - Online Safety Guides'.
SUMMER UNIFORM TERM 4
As we return to school in Term 4, we will transition to our school summer uniform. A reminder to parents that uniform is a requirement of attending St Francis of Assisi and we pride ourselves on wearing our uniform correctly. I will be closely monitoring the standard of uniforms and following up with parents whose children do not have correct items on. Please see below for the uniform requirements for Term 4.
BREAKFAST CLUB THANKS
This term saw the introduction of our very successful Breakfast Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thank you to Baker's Delight, Clarkson for supplying the bread and Miss Julie Ford and Mrs Kristina Bowden for being the driving force behind this initiative. It has been warmly received by our children. We will be back in Term 4 offering this service to our community.
FAREWELL CAILYN AND DECLAN STEAD
From today, Cailyn (5B) and Declan (2B) will be leaving our school community. It has been wonderful to have the two of them in our school over the past year and we wish them well for the start at their new school. All the best!
Finally, wishing all our families safe travels and a relaxing time over the next two weeks of school holidays. Whilst we can't get to usual hotspots like Bali, what a great time to explore all that WA has to offer! A reminder that school returns on Monday 12th October. We look forward to welcoming all our children back healthy and happy next term.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI FEAST DAY
The feast day of St Francis of Assisi is celebrated throughout the world on 4th October, with many parishes celebrating with the blessing of pets and prayers about creation. Here at St Francis of Assisi CPS, we will celebrate St Francis on Friday 16th October (Week 1), with a whole school Mass (8:45am) and Mission Fete after recess. St Francis is highly regarded not only for his love of animals and all creation, but also for his compassion in caring for those less fortunate. All money raised this year will once again go to assisting our 'sister' schools in the Philippines through the SEEDS program. Children are reminded they are able to wear free dress for a gold coin donation.
As the Mission Fete will be held outside, each class will be asking for parents to volunteer to operate the class stalls once again. We really appreciate all the parent help and support in making the Mission Fete such a success each year. Parents, please return your slip to the class teacher as soon as possible.
A parent note is coming home today for all children in Year 6 wishing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please read it carefully with your child, and return the Confirmation Card Details form by Friday 16th October.
Wishing everyone - children, families and staff a relaxing break. It has been a long term and hopefully everyone gets the opportunity to recharge, ready for a busy term 4! Stay safe!
"God requires that we assist the animals, when they need our help. Each being (human or creature) has the same right of protection." St Francis of Assisi
Miss Dee Campbell
