State Street Scoop
Issue 4 - September 29th
Principal's Corner
Hello Fabulous Families,
I hope that September served as a comfortable adjustment to you and your children. I must say the students are excelling in their behavior! School-wide expectations have been reviewed with the students. They have helped me develop the guidelines for being a SHARK! in the lunchroom, on the playground, in the hallway, and in the restroom. Ask them about the videos they watched of the staff modeling expected behavior! We explicitly teach children how to behave well rather than simply punishing them for not behaving well. All staff review the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) philosophy throughout the school year.
I’m very proud of the students for listening to the adults in charge, whether it is myself, their classroom teacher, their lunch/recess teacher, or their bus driver. Students are earning SHARK! cards for Safe, Honest, Assertive, Responsible, Kind and !perseverance. They put their SHARK! cards in the jars in the lobby and then I pick students to receive a prize from me! This is so much fun! Students who earn 4 SHARK! cards in the same area then get a spirit stick- this is a special honor already earned by several of our students!
Take some time to enjoy all that Fall has to offer before the weather turns cold and blustery! An outdoor walk in the fresh air (try the Landtrust paths on Tom Harvey Road), or a hayride with apple cider, whatever you choose to do, do it together as a family!
Hope to see you at Open Door’s Night on October 5th from 6:00-7:00! We have so much to celebrate!
Sincerely,
Audrey Faubert

Build Our Kids Success (BOKS)
We are pleased to announce the launch of BOKS, a before school physical activity program, at State Street School this year. BOKS prepares children for a day of learning and is an important step in helping children gain an appreciation of the benefits of exercise and healthy choices that will last a lifetime. BOKS was inspired by Dr. John Ratey’s book “Spark”. Dr. Ratey, of Harvard Medical School, states that “exercise is the single most powerful tool that we have to optimize the function of our brains.” Classes are filled with team-oriented games and provide plenty of opportunity for play, since the program focuses on fun!
Typical BOKS Class
45 minutes long
Fun warm-up game or movement drills
Running activity, relay races, obstacle courses and strength movements
Fun game
Cool down and a BOKS Bit- a nutrition component of the program
When is BOKS?
BOKS will runs every Tuesday and Thursday morning. This year we will be running 3 10 week sessions, so all grades will have a chance to participate.
Is there transportation for BOKS?
Parents are responsible for transporting their children to school.
I hope that you will share our enthusiasm for this program and you will, in turn, see a positive impact on your children.
