Our middle school camps allow students to:

  • Build new skills
  • Provide career exploration
  • Have fun!

Camp Structure:

  • Each of our camps is four days in length and runs for three hours. (For example, Monday-Thursday from 9am-12pm.)
  • We can offer them at our site or at other facilities depending on availability.
  • Materials and supplies are paid for by Butte County CTE and camper fees.
  • Camper registration is done through CARD (Chico Area Recreation Department.)

Instructor Compensation:

For every 12-hour camp, instructors are compensated for 21 hours of time. This includes the actual instructional time, preparation time and up to three hours of curriculum development support to help you plan out each day and ensure your camp is a success!

Examples of Past Camps

DIY Micro Computer Science Camp

In this Spring Break camp, middle school students will be introduced to the career technical education (CTE) field of computer science through the use of a Piper Computer Kit. Students will obtain hands-on building and coding skills and explore computers and other electronic hardware gadgets while navigating a Minecraft Raspberry Pi Edition video game. At the end of the camp, students will earn a computer science certificate.

Explore Welding

Have you ever wanted to create something totally unique out of metal? Now's your chance! In this four day welding camp, we will cover safety in the welding classroom and three types of welding to create an artistic metal project campers can take home! Students will also explore careers in welding.

Culinary Cook-Off: Delicious Dinners

In this culinary camp, students will learn the basics of creating such comfort dinner foods as lasagna, spaghetti, enchiladas and chili, guided by two local professional caterers. From there, students will build on these basics to create new variations that fit their personal tastes. On the final day, these budding chefs will prepare a complete dinner. No prior cooking knowledge required. Students will gain experience in a kitchen and using the oven and stove-top.
