Knightly Update October 30, 2022
ACP High School - Edition Vol 2 Issue 15
You have to love when a historic moment happens on our campus, and we had one this week. As you probably know, our girls badminton team, under the direction of Coach Andi Giberson, won the first ever athletic state team championship for our school on Thursday evening. In a tense back and forth battle, your Knights defeated the previously unbeaten and #1 ranked Prescott Badgers, 5-3. Your Knights led going into the doubles matches, 4-2 and had to win just one of the three double matches to earn the title. After some very close sets and several nail biting moments, the girls came away with the victory. It was an incredible and emotional moment to see the reaction of our girls as they raised the state trophy putting an exclamation mark on a fantastic season. Congratulations, ladies. You made history. You will always be the first and your team championship will be treasured in the archives of our school's records forever. My sincerest congratulations.
I want to thank our students for the effort they put forth in taking the PSAT this year. In walking around the hallways and peaking into classrooms, it was evident the students were focused and doing their best. I appreciate the hard work our students display throughout the year and their understanding that they should do their best on exams such as the PSAT for themselves. Their hard work will pay off. Nice work, Knights.
If you have yet to see the Knights Theater Company's production of Mama Mia, you need to! It is a fantastic musical and the students on stage and behind the scenes do a phenomenal job. I guarantee you'll find yourself tapping your toes or wiggling in your seat to some of the music. You're sure to walk out of our Performing Arts Center with a song in your head and a smile on your face. The final three performances of Mama Mia take place this week (see weekly calendar below). Great job, actors, actresses, stage crew, and directors. Bravo!!
We continue to monitor traffic during peak drop off and pick up times and want to remind everyone to please follow established processes. Unfortunately, our neighbors continue to express concern with the amount of traffic they experience in their neighborhood. This is all due to families simply choosing to do what they want as opposed to following set parameters, and frankly it's frustrating to continually have to address. Please use Mustang or Brooks Farm Rd. to gain access to the school. Do not use other residential streets and avoid getting to the campus from Lindsay Rd. Empathy for our residential neighbors is appreciated. Thank you.
Winter sport tryouts begin this week. As always, I encourage students to consider trying out for a team and looking for ways to be involved on campus. Information about this week's tryouts are included in today's update. In further athletic news, our varsity girls volleyball team will begin their journey for a state championship this week with a tournament play-in game on Tuesday and our swim and dive athletes head to their state championship meet Friday and Saturday. Make plans to cheer on our Knights as they work to bring home some more hardware. Good luck!
I hope you have a very nice week, and for those that celebrate, a Happy Halloween. If you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you for choosing ACP and for the support you continuously show for our students and school.
Rob Bickes
Principal

Boys & Girls Basketball, Boys & Girls Soccer, and Wrestling (no-cut).
As a reminder, students must be FULLY CLEARED through Register My Athlete prior to attending any tryout or practice. Simply put, NO clearance = NO participation. If you have competed in a Fall sport, the winter sport that you are trying out for MUST be included in your RMA and also say COMPLETE.
AIA tryouts are 5 days and will not be extended for individuals who are not cleared in time. Exceptions can be made only for athletes currently on a Fall team, whose season is not yet complete. ADOT Launches Contest
The Arizona Department of Transportation is hosting a student essay contest to determine which public schools will get an Arizona Centennial road sign that was originally installed on the state highway system in 2012 to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of Arizona gaining statehood. As ACP officially opened its doors in 2012, it would be a neat token to house on our campus.
The topic of the essay contest involves the five Cs of Arizona: Copper, Cattle, Cotton, Citrus, and Climate. Each of these five resources serves an important role in Arizona’s history. Students may choose one or multiple resources for the assignment. Describe why the resource, or resources, plays an important role in the economy and culture of Arizona.
Contest rules are as follows:
- Eligible students must be enrolled in 6th to 12th grades. The essays must be at least 400 words and be the original work of the student.
- One essay per public school is allowed to be submitted. The designated school administrator or official will submit their school’s essay nomination on behalf of the selected student.
- The deadline for submitting essays to ADOT is midnight on Jan. 31, 2023.
- Essays submitted from each participating school will be judged by a panel of ADOT employees based on originality, creativity, unique writing style and descriptive language.
One winning essay will be chosen in each Arizona county to receive a centennial sign. Winning schools will be announced on Feb. 14, 2023. Please submit your essay to your English teacher for consideration and help bring an Arizona Centennial road sign to ACP.
