October Highlights
October began with our staff identifying the September students of the month. Congratulations goes out to Sarah Meinecke, Garrett Bonk, Claire Chontos, Gretchen Gehrke, Brady Windsor, Hannah Biggins, Cooper Clague, and Brady Windsor on being the 8 students selected to represent JLMS as the September students of the month.
The 8th grade students took part in manufacturing day on October 6. We want to thank Waukesha Metals and Blanking Systems for opening their doors to our students and providing a fantastic day of career exploration that meets our ACP (Academic Career Planning) curriculum needs. Students learned about future job opportunities from these local businesses on their field trip.
In the second week of October we ran a successful scholastic book fair and held the Fall parent-teacher conferences. As a follow up to PT conferences, if at anytime you have questions about your student's experiences in their classes, please contact their teacher to communicate any positives or concerns that your child is expressing with you at home.
The annual Halloween Dance was a huge success on the 20th and highly attended by our student body. A special thanks goes out to our 7th-grade teachers for organizing the event and a shout out to all the donations that were provided for the concession stand.
October concluded with Red Ribbon Week and the end of first quarter. Jason Maupin came to JLMS and addressed our student body. Many students were moved by the message he shared. To learn more about his message, please visit www.elevateindustries.com. In addition, Mrs. Brady, JLMS School Counselor, worked with Ozaukee Family Services who provided a Lost in Cyberspace presentation to parents. This presentation focused on effective parenting in the digital world. The parents that attended gave positive feedback and we do plan on providing this opportunity again later in the school year.
You can visit Skyward family access to view your student's first quarter grades. The official posting of report card will be completed this week as well.
Our school wide PBIS incentive for October was focused on classroom preparedness. Our initial school data this year has shown that the biggest obstacle to student success is being properly prepared for class. This includes having homework complete, bringing the required materials, and being ready to learn. For a fun look at how we rolled out the incentive, please view the video below.
