From Your Pastors

This Sunday we continue our message series “Made for More”. We will be exploring Ephesians 4 and how the Lord works to build the body of Christ (His church). This message series will end Aug. 14. If you miss a Sunday due to vacation or travel plans, remember you can always view the messages and worship services archived on our website: www.zionwalburg.org. And mark your calendars for our annual youth Sunday at Zion. This year it will be Sunday, Aug. 21. Youth and adult leaders will be participating in parts of both worship services and providing a look at this important ministry over the past months.

Keep Pastor Kevin and his family in your prayers the next few weeks. Pastor is currently in Wittenberg, Germany serving at the International Lutheran Center (the “Old Latin School”) as visiting chaplain. The center is a partner organization of the LCMS. Sarah and the children are with pastor. We pray the Lord richly blesses this experience and they return safely to Zion in mid-August.

Plans are being finalized for the resumption of our Connections hour next month. A “restart” event will be held in mid-August . . . watch the Hilltop Headlines for more details. Pastor Dave continues a Sunday morning survey of the New Testament class at 9:30 AM in the sanctuary. The course will run through mid-August. And if your family is considering attending Zion Family Camp Oct. 7-10, visit our website to fill out an online registration. We would love to have your family join this special weekend!

Please keep your pastors informed on how we can be a blessing to you and your family. Call (512.863.3065) or email the church office (church@zionwalburg.org) with any news to share. We look forward to seeing you in person as often as the Lord brings us together in the final weeks of summer! See you Sunday!

THE LESSONS THIS SUNDAY – Exodus 31.1-11, Ephesians 4.1-7, 11-16, & Luke 19.1-10

Wurstbraten's 50th Anniversary Items

The 50th anniversary of Wurstbraten is quickly approaching and will be here before you know it. Some of the limited edition 50th anniversary Wurstbraten items are on display in the hallway near the Parlor. These and additional items can be found on our online store which can be accessed by clicking the button below; more information will be shared in the weeks to come. We are excited to celebrate 50 years of fellowship and history of Zion’s largest, oldest and longest running fundraiser this November with you.

School Supply Drive

Our Zion VBS Mission/Service Project this year was a school supply drive for surrounding communities. I challenged our VBS participants to fill a very large bin all the way to the top with school supplies and if they were able to do it, I would take a pie to the face! I also told them that for every backpack donated I would have a raw egg smashed on my head. By the second night of VBS the bin was full! By Thursday night we had 40 backpacks brought in by families. I look forward to sharing the photos of our final nights closing ceremonies where I was covered with pie and eggs! To build off what was started at VBS I would like to continue the supply drive for the month of July. There is a collection bin in the Worship Center Lobby. Join us in making sure families can provide school supplies for their children come August!

Here are the items we need:

Backpacks, Lunchboxes, #2 Pencils, Markers, Crayons, Colored Pencils, Red, Blue and Black, Pens, Folders, Spiral Notebooks, Composition Notebooks, Erasers, Watercolors, Wide Ruled and College Ruled Paper, Glue Sticks, Liquid Glue, Rulers, Post It Notes, Notecards, Pencil Bags/Boxes, Scissors

Thank you for partnering with us!

Mrs. Rachel

Landscape Improvement Fund

The Board of Trustees are beginning the process to provide new landscaping within the asphalt driveways surrounding the Sanctuary/Worship Center (new building) to the South parking lot. The costs are estimated to be around $180,000. Therefore, the Landscape Improvement Fund will be created as a new church dedicated account to help fund these efforts. Please prayerfully consider donating to the Landscape Improvement Fund to help cover these costs to beautify Zion’s campus.

Zion Night at the Ballpark

ALL are invited to a time of fellowship and fun at a RR Express baseball game Friday, September 9 at 6:35pm. Zion is providing the tickets but we need your RSVP. Sign up in the button below or call the Church Office 512-863-3065. RSVP by Wednesday, August 31. Stay for fireworks after!

A Message From the Principal

Camp Zion!

The summer program was wonderful in every way. Zion is licensed to host a program of three weeks, have a one-week break, and resume with the last three. We were blessed once again with Director Rhonda Schwertner’s leadership! We witnessed child after child with smiles that reached from ear to ear. We thank God for the opportunity to bless our community in this meaningful way.

A Summer of Preparation

We had to move quickly to prepare for this new school year, moving about 40% of our personnel, classrooms, or office space. Again…we are thankful especially to Teacher Rusty Bryson for leading this effort, and to Stanley Bielss for his work as our Facilities Manager and Steve Cashio assisting in every way.

Another Teacher and Staff Member to Share

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Paula Guzman to be our second Preschool teacher. She worked with Rhonda Schwertner this entire last year and was her right-hand assistant in our summer program, too. She is a former director of an early childhood center, with many gifts to share, and is a person of faith as she has blessed every child in her care.

Soon we will also be sharing new part-time teachers and staff members.

Still Needed

As we approach the start of school, we are still in need of two additional staff members. Both are paid positions.

1) Before-Care. The person does not need any prerequisite training, but must be at school to supervise 50 + students in the gym, from 7:10 – 7:50 am

2) Music. This is one day a week instructor for lower grades music. Although music experience is preferred, it is not required. The curriculum used can be taught by anyone who has a willingness to work with children.

Reach out to Principal Thomas Wrege if you have an interest (thomas.wrege@zionwalburg.org)

Splitting of Classes

For those who are in double classes, you will soon hear from your homeroom teacher in a welcome communication. Those who are teaching single classes will also be in contact with you as well – in the near future.

All teachers return on 01 August. Each year we begin together in an all-staff Bible study. This year it will be led by the Rev. Dr. David Kluth, our Vacancy Pastor. We always begin with the Lord….

Security at Zion

We will soon share a statement that addresses safety measures we have put in place to help ensure proper measures on our campus.

Strategic Planning

A group has recently been formed through our Church Council to begin looking at expansion of our campus for our day school.

Zion Braille Night Group

The Zion Braille Night Group meets once a month on the 3rd Monday at 7:00 p.m. to assemble Braille Books of the Bible or other devotional materials. We are in need of some additional workers. If you are interested, please contact Peggy Turnipseed at 512-413-1113. We meet in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Wurstbraten - How the Torch is Passed!

In this announcement I would like to encourage anyone who was at the first Wurstbraten or got involved later to relate how they got involved, what they started doing and how they got to be involved to the point where they are now. This is especially relevant for those who are now considered captains. If you have a special memory of how you saw this relatively small activity blossom and morph into what it has become I am hoping that you would share this with the rest of us. Please send it to me by email or put it in the box.

If you would like to be part of the process to come up with the design and implementation please contact Weldon at 512-635-6429 or email at 49weldon72@gmail.com.

The Lutheran Hour

Daily Devotions

Enhance your study of the Scriptures with LHM's Daily Devotions

With messages based on the church calendar's three-year lectionary, individual devotions are based on Psalms, the Old Testament, the New Testament, and Gospel texts. Additional devotions each week explore a hymn from the Lutheran Service Book, a "classic" text from LHM resources, and a sermon excerpt from past programs of The Lutheran Hour. Each day's audio is provided by Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler. The Daily Devotions offer an excellent opportunity to study God"s Word through text and reflection questions. Go to lhm.org/dailydevotions.

Sermon schedule

July 31

Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler

Dr. Zeigler contrasts life's ephemeral nature with Christ's eternal hope. ( Ecclesiastes 12:8)

You can listen to The Lutheran Hour on KLBJ on Sunday mornings at 7 a.m. or online at lutheranhour.org, through a mobile app, and on new media platforms like Spotify, iHeartRadio, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Sirius XM satellite radio.

Caring Place

See you soon at the 2000 Railroad Avenue drive-through. 1st, 3rd, and 5th Monday of the month from 9-10 a.m. With no eligibility requirements, this is the perfect way to add fresh produce to your family's diet while also helping the budget a little. This food is brought to you by Central Texas Food Bank.

Heat Advisory Impacts The Caring Place's Donation Hours This Month!

July 19, 2022

Effective immediately, Donation hours at The Caring Place are Mon - Sat, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. This temporary change at our 2000 Railroad Avenue drive-through is due to this summer's extreme temperatures.

We will keep these new hours through the end of July on Saturday, July 30th. We will reevaluate the weather forecast each week in order to decide when afternoon hours will return. Please watch the banner on our website, or visit our Social Media pages on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to learn about current hours in this department.

Thank you so much for understanding and continuing to make item donations in support of our mission. While we know changing our Donation hours can be frustrating, we care deeply about the health of our staff, loyal volunteers, and the donors who visit us this summer. We have implemented some new cooling measures in our outdoor warehouse this season, but it simply is not enough to combat the sun.
